Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4

Synopsis: Successful and driven, Rebecca Bunch seemingly has it all — an upscale apartment in Manhattan and a partnership at a prestigious law firm — but she feels like something is missing. After a chance meeting with a former romantic interest, Rebecca impulsively decides to give up her life in New York and relocate to West Covina, Calif., a Los Angeles suburb she hopes will be the perfect home base as she embarks on a quest for love, adventure and true happiness.

What a whirlwind of a season, but a good ending to this show! I’ve enjoyed this show from Season 1, watching the characters transform through each season. I love the creativity behind the production and the unique songs that I continue to sing along too. Which this show is a fun musical, I like that tackles a variety of issues/subjects such as LGBTQ community, mental illness, relationships, love, and more. It’s a much watch for fans of music comedies. While I’m sad to see it come to an end, it was good while it lasted.

Aggretsuko Season 2

Synopsis: Retsuko is a 25-year-old red panda who is growing increasingly frustrated with her job in the accounting department of a trading company in Tokyo as she enters her fifth year working at the firm. All she wants to do is get her job done and make it through the day. But her frustrations often reach a boiling point — whether it’s because of pushy superiors or annoying co-workers — and when they do she gets her emotions out the only way she knows how — by going to a karaoke bar and venting through death metal music.

I love Sanrio and Season 2 just strengthens my love for the character Aggretusko. It’s comedic while also tacking issues through a complex lens. This continues to focus on the struggles of being a 20-something interpersonal relationships — friends, family, romantic prospects, or coworkers. Aggretsuko show that it’s okay to make mistakes, to be unsure of your future, and most importantly how to blow off the intensity of life-a good karaoke sesssion.

The Good Place Season 4

Synopsis: In the fourth season, Eleanor and Michael are given the opportunity to prove that the system for assigning humans to the Good Place or Bad Place after death is fatally flawed, by attempting to demonstrate that humans in a simulated Good Place can show moral development. One of the experiment subjects is Eleanor’s boyfriend, Chidi, who has volunteered to have his memory erased to preserve the integrity of the experiment.

I’m sad to see this show go, but I’m glad that it’s ending while the writing is still strong compared to others shows with never-ending seasons. All of these characters hold a special place in my heart and I like the chemistry between the cast members. Though we’ve come to end, I like the question of “what makes a good person?” that is posed by this show and showcases how people can’t be seen as black and white, but rather can evolve over time.

Movies

Frozen 2

Synopsis: Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven leave Arendelle to travel to an ancient, autumn-bound forest of an enchanted land. They set out to find the origin of Elsa’s powers in order to save their kingdom.

Being the big Disney fan, I went to see Frozen 2 opening weekend and was not disappointed. The sequel was just as good as the first film and I love the new adventure our characters go on in the film. Everyone grows a great deal and the bonds between friends and sisters become even stronger. I love how each character goes through their own transformation. Plus the music. Kristoff’s 80’s power ballad solo song rocked!

The Holiday Calendar

Synopsis: A photographer inherits an antique Advent calendar that seems to predict her future — including a budding romance.

A cute romance Christmas movie with a friends-to-lovers trope that is very heartwarming! The main character is not only struggling with romance, but is looking for guidance what to do in her future. She’s stuck at a job she doesn’t want and has big dreams of having her own photography studio. This movie had a homey feeling to it, plus I like how the advent calendar was used for the plot. A nice feel-good movie!

A Christmas Prince

Synopsis: Christmas comes early for an aspiring young journalist when she’s sent abroad to get the scoop on a dashing prince who’s poised to be king.

I’ve heard so much buzz about this Netflix movie for the past couple years and it was in my cue so I sat to watch it. It was even cheesier than a Hallmark Christmas film, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously which is why I like it so much. It’s a formulaic movie, but it has that happily ever after that you want in a Romance movie. I can’t wait to watch the third installment.

Music

Into the Unknown (Frozen 2 Cover) by Jamie Park

I love this song so much! It’s one of my top favorites from Frozen 2. Jamie Park is an excellent singer and she really sings her heart out in this cover!

Couch Potato by Jakubi

This is a fun song, with a very funky bass line that gets you moving. The unique singing still and horn section of this song makes this such a catchy tune.

At Cafe -Lofi Mix

I never get tired of this Lofi mix and always have it on replay since it’s so jazzy. It’s great for relaxing, studying, blog writing, or when you just want a soothing ambiance.

Youtube

Rainbowholic TV

This channel follows Kaila who is originally from the Philippines and is Kawaii Lifestyle Blogger & Creator based in Japan. I’m a big crafter/planner person myself so I gravitated to her channel. I like her variety of creative content, vlogs about journaling, and showing the latest and greatest in stationary products.

  1. The Pop Culture Happy Hour crew reviewed the last season of Crazy Ex GF well too. I’ve not been watching, but it sounds like I’ve missed out.

The idea of watching holiday movies? I love it. But the reality of watching them? They annoy me instead of tickle me. But I did really like To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Which I also thought would be (could be!) annoying. And it wasn’t!

I’m glad to hear the final season of The Good Place is good and agree that it is better to end a show when it’s strong. That’s one that I always felt could have ended after the first one, but it’s held up so far…one more though? that might have been just too much. Have you watched House of Lies? Kristen Bell’s in that too. (Though not my fave character.)

    1. I totally understand. You should check out Crazy Ex Girlfriend, it’s such a well written show and the songs are good too. All seasons are currently on Netflix. The only reason I think The Good Place shouldn’t end after season one was there were so many unanswered questions, plus we didn’t get a ton of backstory either. House of Lies is one show I haven’t watched, but I have heard of it.

      1. I’ll check it out! And, yes, I wanted the backstory for TGP too. But I’m intrigued by shows which start as limited series (like Forever) when they know, from the start, that it’s only going to last a few hours. Although I also hate letting go of characters, so *sigh*…
