Review
I didn’t really know that much about Phantom of the Opera but the cover art and synopsis of Music of the Night intrigued me. The story has an heavy aura of mystery and gloom. Adding to the atmosphere is a landscape that seems dark, especially with a lurking tower with haunting music. Aria wants to sings more than anything else. Her thoughts of what will happen if she cant keep performing prompt her to take on music lessons that threaten to take something from her.
When Aria starts to take music lessons from the allusive Uriah her life rapidly changes. she starts to fall in love and question all the spooky occurrences around the castle. Is it really a safe haven? What’s the history behind it? And why are people going missing?
This story started out a bit slow for me but quickly grabbed my attention as the story went on. I like how it used Phantom of the Opera as its inspiration but ford wove it into her own story. It was suspenseful with all of the mysteries surrounding the lore and magic of the two towers and a climatic ending that I didn’t expect. It was a very atmospheric novel and I loved the fantasy elements to add to the overall love story. Its had a good mixture of action romance, tragedy, and music.

It says a lot that, even though you’re not familiar with the original story, that you still enjoyed it. She must have done a great job. I’m in Canada, so I’m not entering the giveaway, but I’m leaving a comment anyway. Also, what a pretty name for a character, Aria. And so fitting.
I did! Phantom of the Opera never really interested me even as a fan of theatre and Broadway shows, but this cover and synopsis really caught my eye. I’ll definitely have to check out more of Ford’s other novels too.
