6 Movies To Watch During Autumn
I love watching movies, especially cozy ones that fit the brisk temps of the Autumn season. I’ve seen so many over the years, but here are some picks of movies that I’ve enjoyed and recommend for anyone looking to add some films to their seasonal watchlist.
Happiness For Beginners
A year after her divorce, 32-year-old Helen Carpenter lets her brother persuade her to sign up for a wilderness survival course. Through this experience she discovers that you have to get lost to find yourself.
Based on the book of the same name (which I haven’t read yet) this rom-com is an entertaining movie about starting something new and starting over again. It’s an easy-watch and predictive film that offers chuckles, smiles, and even some cheesy moments. The film has a great ensemble cast which has great chemistry with each other and each character is very endearing and comical. If you’re looking for a film to give you a cozy feeling of the outdoors during Autumn this is it.
Little Forest
A young woman grows tired of life in the city and returns to her hometown in the countryside.
If you enjoy cozy and/or quiet movies then Little Forest is for you. From the cinematography, the delicious foods, and joy of simple moments in the countryside made this film feel like chicken soup for the soul! The main character returns home from the big city (Seoul) for a bit of soul searching as she’s hit a crossroads in her life. This process proves to be a healing journey for her as she comes to terms with failing her exams, her relationship with her mother, and trying to determine which path is best for her. I love the recipes created throughout the film and how it shows the healing power of nature/living in the moment. While not entirely just set in Autumn, I like that the film showcases the beauty of all four seasons.
3 Bed, 2 Bath, 1 Ghost
Refusing to leave a newly listed home, a ghost becomes convinced she cannot pass over until she gets a woman back together with her ex.
This movie gives a mixture of Halloween and Autumn vibes as it has a mystery element combined with a romance plot. It’s definitely one of the better Hallmark movies that breaks out of the formula and has strong character development as well. I loved the interactions between the main character, Anna, and the ghost, Ruby. Rather than a haunted house story, this is a not so spooky with a ghost not able to leave the house. So if you want to watch something to get a Halloween mood without a not-so-scary story, this is a good film to enjoy.
Coco
Despite his family’s generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Héctor, the two new friends embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
Pixar has done it again! Another beautiful film with a strong narrative that’s full of heart and very lovable characters. I love the vivid colors used and the amazing animation pulls the viewer into Miguel’s story. I enjoyed how the story explored the culture of Dia De Los Muertos and how the film pays tribute to Mexican culture. The soundtrack is wonderful, the story is heartwarming, and I like the theme of family mixed with a coming-of-age tale.
Pumpkin Pie Wars
Ten years ago, Faye and Lydia each opened their own bakeries in Emeryville, Ohio after a personal and professional fall-out during a local Pumpkin Pie contest. Now their children–and co-workers–Casey and Sam, are set to carry on the rivalry as they go head-to-head in the same contest. There’s only one problem for these two people who are supposed to hate each other: they start to fall in love.
You honestly can’t get more Hallmark than with the film Pumpkin Pie Wars, but I enjoyed every cheesy moment of it. From the witty banter to rivaling baking families, this film is a fun and lighthearted watch. This movie reminded me of why I love Autumn treats so much and so many mouthwatering desserts are featured in this film. It gives off a small-town romance vibe that is comforting to watch. The characters though formulaic still make the film a good watching experience. Julie Gonzalo is quickly being added to my list of favorite Hallmark actresses.
Brown Sugar
Sidney and Dre can attribute their friendship and the launch of their careers to one single childhood instant … witnessing the birth of hip-hop on a New York street corner. Now some 15 years later, she is a revered music critic and he is a successful, though unfulfilled, music executive. Both come to realize that their true life passions will only be fulfilled by remembering what they learned that day on the corner.
All I can say after watching this movie is, bring back the 2000s romantic comedies! They just don’t make them like that anymore! I loved the trope of friends-to-lovers in this film and how they have great chemistry on-screen and the romance development felt realistic. The warm tone of this film definite make it a good pick for a seasonal watch as we watch the characters grow with each other. It was entertaining, funny, and swoon worthy. On top of that the film, has an amazing soundtrack as it plays homage to hip-hop’s legacy and the culture.

Omg, Brown Sugar is one of my all-time favorite movies. And I agree that it’s a good one for fall too. I also love that it’s about the love they have for each other as well as for hip hop too. Loved the soundtrack.
