My Favorite Things: August

My Favorite Things is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. I hope you enjoy these personal picks!

Movies

Coraline

While exploring her new home, a girl named Coraline discovers a secret door, behind which lies an alternate world that closely mirrors her own but, in many ways, is better. She rejoices in her discovery, until Other Mother and the rest of her parallel family try to keep her there forever. Coraline must use all her resources and bravery to make it back to her own family and life.

This is a movie I’ve seen numerous times and one of the best Laika Studios films I’ve ever seen. It’s been years since the film was remastered and through the re-release I got to catch all these small details I never noticed before while watching the film. I love how the movie is the perfect balance between whimsical and spooky, especially when it comes to villains of this story. If you haven’t watched Coraline or read the novel, I highly recommend it for the Autumn season!

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

After the death of the family’s patriarch, Toula attempts to locate her father’s childhood friends in Greece for a family reunion.

Though formulaic this film series is one of my go-to movies whenever I need a comfort watch. This film felt like a great closure to the trilogy and I’m glad the whole cast was on board to come back for another installment. As always I enjoy the banter and interactions between Toula’s family which makes the films entertaining to watch. From a surface level they can be seen as a nuisance of sorts, but they care deeply for one another. I appreciated that this time the film takes us to Greece to take in the sights and sounds of the landscape. It was so beautiful! And as always this film will leave you with a heartwarming feeling as you watch it.

YouTube

Cozyaholic

I watch a lot of lifestyle content on YouTube and one of my new favorite channels is Cozyaholic. Her videos are cozy and give me some great décor tips as well as new hobbies to try. Her Autumn vlogs have been giving me all the seasonal vibes lately!

How Friendships Changed The Last 50 Years

This video while funny was very insightful as well. It discusses why loneliness has been declared an epidemic and relationships have evolved or changed over the generations. This video really shows how technology while helpful has ultimately impacted friendships negatively in a lot of ways. This video made me reminisce about growing up in simpler times.

Podcasts

Smosh Reads Reddit Stories

Shayne Topp and his friends react to unhinged Reddit Stories! I’ve been getting more into Reddit stories over the past year and this podcasts is now my go-to listen while I work. I enjoy the guest hosts, commentary, and the variety of the stories for each episode’s theme.

Music

Let Yourself Go by Green Day

I love this track! It’s a great anthem song and helps me to relieve my stress too.  It’s a song where they express their frustrations with haters and it’s lyrics are relatable.

Hero by AKMU

I’ve been a big fan of AKMU since their debut and this recent release is one of my favorite singles from the sibling duo. The MV is very whimsical and ethereal, it fits the vibe of the song very well as it follows storybook theme. It’s such a soothing song and Suhyun’s vocals really shine in this track!

City Boys by Burna Boy

I’ve been taking some dance classes and one of the songs that we learned choreography to was City Boys. I enjoy the fusion of Afrobeats and Hip-Hop in this track so much. All of the melodies blend together so well and the upbeat vibe gets me dancing in no time.
