Slice of Life: Summer Wrap-Up 2024

Summer is coming to an end! While I’m sad to see the season go, I’m highly anticipating enjoying the Autumn. It was a hot summer with high temps, but I still had a great summer. Here are some of my highlights from Summer 2024!

Cincinnati Trip

I had the best time in Cincinnati with my friend, Yali who I original met through being penpals. It was fun meeting in person for the first time and getting to explore some of the Downtown area. Some of the highlights from the trip include visiting the American Sign Museum, the Riverside Park, Findlay Market, and enjoying a ride on the BB Riverboats. Cincinnati is a cool city!

Corinne Bailey Rae Concert

Corinne Baily Rae has been one of my favorite signers for the longest time and I got to see her live in concert with my mom. Her music has had such an impact on my life and her music has been healing for me. What an incredible performance that left me awe-struck. She had so much energy and joy just from performing in from of a live audience. I also was happy that the set list was a mix of newer and older songs.

BTS Festa

I met up and hung out with the BTS Festa 11th Anniversary event with my friend Becca hosted by MI K-Pop Events. I met fellow BTS ARMY and got some freebies too. I shopped at the K-pop Nara shop and snagged some new merch as well as shopped at the many vendor booths that were there too.

Janet Jackson & Nelly Concert

Janet Jackson has always been on my list of singers to see live and I got to see the legendary lady live in concert this summer along with Nelly as an opening act. I did have lawn seats, but I felt that didn’t take away from my experience at all! Both artists had a great set list and I danced throughout the concert so much my legs and feet were hurting at the end, lol.

A.C.E. Concert

My first K-Pop concert of 2024! I only knew a few of their songs and it was cool to be introduced to A.C.E. as a new fan. They have phenomenal vocals and performance skills. Even though one of the members of the group was missing (due to health reasons), they filled in his parts so well. It was a fun night out!

Meet & Greet with Sarah Anderson

A local library and bookstore joined together to host a collaborative event during Webcomic Con that was happening that weekend. They hosted a meet and greet with cartoonists Sarah Andersen (Sarah’s Scribbles) and Reza Farazmand (Poorly Drawn Lines). I enjoyed getting to learn more about their creative process and got the opportunity to snap a photo with Sarah. I’ve been a long time reader of Sarah’s Scribbles.

Viviz Concert

My second K-Pop concert of 2024! I’ve been a fan of the members of Viviz since their days being a part of the group GFriend. I’m glad that they got to form a new group after their disbandment and show a new musical side to themselves. They gave such a high energy performance and they even included a Gacha machine challenge where they answered fan questions and showed off their skills. I hope I can see them live again.

Shrek The Musical

Shrek The Musical mirrors the original film while also putting its unique spin on the story as well. It also elements of its sequels: Shrek 2 and Shrek Forever After as well. It was very humorous and silly which made it so entertaining to watch. The standout performances for me were the Gingerbread Man and Pinocchio. They had me laughing non-stop!

Blake’s Sunflower Festival

I have visited Blake’s Farm numerous times, but this marks the first year I attended their Sunflower Festival. Despite the scattered rain showers I was still able to have a great time and get some great sunflower picks. They had lots of vendors to shop from and food to eat. My favorite was the Lavender Lemonade which is a perfect summertime treat!
