Even More Cozy Holiday Watching Recommendations

It’s that Holly Jolly time of year and that means Christmas-themed media. I’ll be sharing holiday-themed posts throughout the month of December. Today I’m talking about some cozy watching recommendations. Here are some picks that I’ve enjoyed and recommend to you.

Spirited

A musical version of Charles Dickens’ story of a miserly misanthrope who’s taken on a magical journey.

When I originally saw the trailer for Spirited I wasn’t sure what to expect. I ended up enjoying the movie more than I thought I would. It was funny, full of show-stoppers, and incredibly heartwarming. I loved every moment of this and how the plot took a twist in the Christmas Carol story (it gave me some Scrooged vibes). The production value was high-quality and many of the songs are instant earworms. It has a star-studded cast and many of these actors/actresses I had never seen in a musical before. So it was very cool to see them using their musical chops.

Noelle

Kris Kringle’s daughter is full of Christmas spirit and holiday fun, but wishes she could do something “important” like her beloved brother Nick, who will take over for their father this Christmas. Nick is training to be Santa, but is failing miserably. When Nick is about to crumble like a gingerbread cookie from all the pressure, Noelle suggests he take a break and get away to clear his head…but then he doesn’t return.

I liked how this film had a modern day Christmas spin and it’s definitely a movie that I can watch over and over again during the holiday season. It reminds you what Christmas is all about; spending time with loved ones and cherishing what you have in life (even the simplest of things). Anna Kendrick was a joy in this movie and it left me with all the cozy Christmas feelings!

Shaun The Sheep: The Flight Before Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner at Mossy Bottom Farm, young Timmy goes missing after a botched attempt to get roomier stockings for the flock. Shaun embarks on a dangerous rescue mission to get his little cousin back and save Christmas.

I’m a sucker for any stop-motion animation Christmas special and I also love Shaun the Sheep (the characters are too cute). This special takes us through the cast’s holiday hijinks that will make you laugh and smile. As always the studio behind the series puts so much detail into each production and the story is full of love and care. If you enjoy Wallace & Gromit movies, I would give this one a watch and its something that kids and adults both can enjoy watching.

Love Hard

An LA girl, unlucky in love, falls for an East Coast guy on a dating app and decides to surprise him for the holidays, only to discover that she’s been catfished. This lighthearted romantic comedy chronicles her attempt to reel in love.

This was a highly anticipated watch in my Netflix cue. Even though it was a rom-com centered around Catfishing it was very cute and lighthearted. On top of that, it’s full of fun wacky antics that had me doubled over in laughter with the quiet moments thrown in. I liked that it added some tropes and poked fun at some classic Christmas favorite films and even incorporated them into the plot. I think the cast as a whole has great chemistry and it made the film very entertaining to watch from beginning to end.

Nothing Like The Holidays

It’s the Christmas season, and the scattered members of the Rodriguez family converge on their parents’ Chicago home to celebrate. But, no family gathering is without its strife. Brother Jesse still pines for an old flame, eldest brother Mauricio now has a high-powered wife who is more interested in career than children, and matriarch Anna drops a bombshell when she announces her intention to divorce her children’s father.

I recently did a re-watch of this movie since it’s been a while since I’ve seen it and it still holds up well for me. The film has a star-studded cast which has strong chemistry and pulls off each character with their strong performances. The film felt very realistic and the emotions of humor, anger, and love that comes across to the audience makes for an engaging watch. The characters didn’t feel flat but rather relatable for some of the situations they deal with. It’s a heartwarming and emotional film I recommend!

Merry Christmas Creature Comforts

Stop-motion animated satire of modern man on the street and documentary interviews, responding to unseen questioners. The voices of the characters are supplied by everyday people speaking varied regional accents.

This is not an entirely holiday based series, but Creature Comforts does have a lot of holiday bits which you can find on YouTube. There are even compilation videos which are fun to enjoy if you don’t have enough time to watch a film, but still want to get in the holiday spirit. They are humorous and I love how wacky the interviews get. It always makes me laugh and smile when I watch this show.

I hope you enjoyed these Holiday themed cozy-watching recommendations. Do you have any favorites that you’ve watched over the years?
