Slice of Life: Winter Wrap-Up 2025
Winter has come to an official end! But even though the season is technically over I won’t see any resemblance of actual spring weather for a while (Thanks, Michigan) I’m not sad to see the season go, because winter is my least favorite time of the year. I’m most definitely ready for warmer weather! Here are some of my highlights from Winter 2024/2025.
Decorating Christmas Cookies

For the holiday season I got to decorate cookies with friends which I haven’t done since I was a kid. It was a lot of fun and my friend Becca, who regularly bakes cookies, showed us simple decorating techniques. The cookies were delicious!
Greenfield Village: Holiday Nights

Back at Holiday Nights for another year! During this annual event, visitors can explore more than 80 acres of Greenfield Village in this glimmering after-hours celebration of a beloved, heartwarming holiday. It was so cold this time that I constantly had to keep moving around and drink hot cocoa. Thankfully they have bonfires to help warm you up too. I got to ride the carousel (see about), enjoy the twinkling lights, and sing along with carolers.
Samara Joy: A Joyful Holiday Concert

GRAMMY Award winner Samara Joy, came to Detroit for the Holidays with her A Joyful Holiday tour. She was joined by members of her talented musical family who have shared the influences of gospel, Motown, and jazz across the generations. Joy is one of my favorite Jazz singers and seeing her live was fantastic. Her and her family put on an amazing concert that left listeners feeling uplifted and with goosebumps. If you’re a Jazz fan, definitely give her music a listen.
Activate

Activate state of the art facility with a variety of active games. You can Complete physical and mental challenges while hanging out with friends. I went here with friends in late January to celebrate my birthday along with another friend’s b-day and we had a great time. These games are an absolute workout and I love interactive aspects of each game. Some are more challenging than others and you can level up as you go.
Isshocon 2025

Isshocon is a convention sponsored by the owners of Otaku Detroit, a small business dedicated to all things anime and Japanese culture. This was their second year putting on a convention and the attendance has doubled in size since the first year! This time I cosplayed ads Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist and Sophie from How’s Moving Castle. It was such a fun weekend of panels such a Magical Girl Anime Jeopardy, playing video games, meeting other cosplayers, and attending my first idol concert where I got to meet with PaiDA!
Birthday!

I celebrated my birthday in early February, and even though I was sick with a cold (for the majority of the week) I still enjoyed myself. Princess Tiana is one of my favorite Disney Princesses so I was delighted to have this Princess and the Frog themed cake. It is so bright and colorful! It was chocolate flavored with buttercream icing. My favorite!
