What I’m Listening To…Y2K Vibes!

Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In my segment “What I’m Listening To” I share some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist consisting of five tracks.

Growing up during the Y2K era, this music shaped my childhood and some of the music I listened to today. The music is characterized by its pop, hip-hop, and alternative rock sounds and futuristic style music videos that left a lasting impression. Here are some newer songs that give Y2K vibes in style and sound.

Love Like You by Charli Taft

Love Like You is Charli Taft’s bold debut R&B single that exudes the millennial sound and style. I love the hip-hop beats that layer the track along with the vocal harmony in the background. Her other tracks also have a Y2K sound but this one by far is my top favorite.

Mmmh by KAI

Musically, Mmmh is a R&B song with a simple yet addictive melody on a minimalist track. It’s a solid solo track from Kai that shows off his musical talent and his background in dance (through the choreography). It’s catchy, smooth, and reminds me of 90’s R&B song.

Boy For a Day by Kylie Cantrall

Cantrall gives off a pop diva from the 2000s from the outfits to the music in this upbeat track. On top of that Darkchild worked on the track (who also produced many Y2K bops). This song does a great job of blending a showcase of song and dance as seen through the music video.

So Special by Citizen Queen

The vibrant and colorful outfits in this MV video scream Y2K. The song is groovy, fun, and mirrors the ultimate girl group bop. Every member of Citizen Queen gets a chance to show off their personality in this song. I like that MV is simple, yet entertaining.

Phone by MNEK

Phone by MNEK is the classic R&B breakup song that has a retro sound in its production. The stripped down feeling of the intro gets the listener hooked into the lyrics instantly. I could see this being a 90s boy group B-side track.

I hope you enjoyed this playlist! What are some songs with Y2K vibes that you enjoy listening to? Comment below!
