Wonderful Writers: Brian K. Vaughn
Hi All! Wonderful Writers is a weekly segment that comes out every Wednesday! Every week I spotlight and discuss one of my favorite authors, books by them, and talk about their writing styles and such. I hope you’ll enjoy. Feel free to participate as well by writing your own post and as always you are welcome to use the meme/pic if you’d like (just remember to credit me).
About: Vaughn is an American comic book and television writer, best known for the comic book series Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways, Pride of Baghdad, and Saga. He is also well-known for his work as writer, story editor and producer of the television series Lost during seasons three through five.
What I’ve Read (So Far):
- Saga
- Runaways
Why He’s a Wonderful Writer:
Vaughn is such an amazing storyteller and his characters are unlike anything I’ve read before. I started to get into reading comics/graphic novels when I was in high school, and up ’til then I had only watched film adaptations of comic books. The Runaways reeled me into the world of comics and I loved the art and these relatable teenage characters who not only deal with teenage problems, but they also have superhero powers and are trying to stop an evil organization. Pretty cool, right?
His stories, from what I’ve read so far, are very unique, and are a little “out there”.One of the reasons Saga is such a strong series is not only because of the artwork and the sci-fi/fantasy aspects, but the characters. Like in the Runaways, you can connect to the characters on a emotional level. I’d recommend Vaughn’s books for anyone who is a new or old fan of reading graphic novels, and to those who enjoy a bit of sci-fi as well.
