Adventures at RT Booklovers Convention 2015 Part 2!
Welcome to Part Two of my adventures at RT 2015!
With the knowledge learned from day one and from my previous experience attending other conventions, day two went a bit more smoothly. My mom and I were still overwhelmed with the many choices of panels on the schedule, but we had more of a organized plan. Plus with a little more sleep than the previous day and large amounts of caffeine, we were ready to take on the day’s events.
The first panel of the day was literally the highlight of the day. We decided to attend the panel called “Author Chat: Reality Shifters”. The panel consisted of authors Charlaine Harris, Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, and Tamora Pierce! Needless to say, I was geeking out pretty hard!

We also got great seats for viewing since we had seats in the second row! Each seat had one of the author’s books depending on where you sat. I received a copy of Gena Showalter’s novel, The Harder You Fall. YAY!!!
The panel was very relaxed and laid back. The ladies not only talked about their own styles of writing and books, but each other’s novels as well. There were lots of laughs as they shared some of their “horror” stories and even brought up some great discussions about the book industry. One of the points they brought up in their discussion was that women are the major consumers and book writers but the industry is still dominated by men. I agreed with this a lot, and I’m hoping that in the future we will see more gender equality and diversity in books.
After sitting down and having lunch it was on to the next panel, “Being Heard: How Bloggers Can Start and Maintain a Publisher Relationship”. The panel was very informative and focused on the marketing and social media aspect of blogging. Since I’ve only been blogging for two years, it was good to hear some tips and receive insight from veteran bloggers and representatives of publishing companies on how to make a strong connection with publishers.
They also discussed topics such as requesting review copies, blog tours, and what they thought of negative reviews. I gained valuable information by attending the panel, and hopefully it will help me to not only network even better, but also help me to be a better blogger. 🙂
The second to last panel of the day we attended was “Kensington’s Sweet Heat”. We ate delicious snacks and had some refreshments as we got to chat with authors and even score special prizes. All the attendees also got their choice of two autographed books! There were tons of authors such as Sylvia Day, Sonali Dev, Ella Quinn, Victoria Vane, and so many more!
The biggest event of the evening? The Wild, Wild West Steampunk Party!
The event was one big costume party! They served dinner food and dessert for party goers that dined on steam punk decorated tables. The best part was the costumes! I could tell that people took a lot of time and dedication in order to make the perfect steam punk outfits.
The best costume of the night in my opinion definitely had to go to the steam punk version of The Wizard of Oz. Their costumes were amazing!
And that concludes my events of Day Two! Stay tuned for more RT posts!
