What I’m Listening To…Summer Jams
Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In this blog post series, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist of five songs.
In this third edition of “What I’m Listening To”, I’m featuring upbeat and relaxing songs that are perfect for summer. Some of the songs featured express the sentiments of summer while others are just fun dance tracks that will get you moving.
1) Sleep in the Wild by Crissi Cochrane
Sleep in the Wild is featured on the Canadian pop singer’s latest album titled Little Sway. I found out about this song through my friend and fellow blogger Stephanie at Life’s a Cup of Tea and immediately fell in love with the song. This mid-tempo jazzy track is perfect for those warm and breezy summer nights as you listen to Crissi’s soothing vocals accompanied by the guitar and brass filled melody. The music video shows Crissi getting ready for a date with a special someone.
2) Primadonna by Marina and the Diamonds
Marina and the Diamonds shows off her primadonna side in this high-powered, electronic dance track. The song is featured as the lead single off of her album Electric Heart. This is a fun song for getting pumped up for a night out on the town. In the music video, Marina or rather her persona “Electric Heart”, gets glitzy and glamorous while strolling through a lavish mansion.
3) My Friend Has a Swimming Pool by Mausi
Mausi is a British band whose sound consists of primarily dance, electronic, and pop music. Nothing is better on a hot summer day than taking a dip in the pool so My Friend Has a Swimming Pool is a great song for the season. Since summer is the prime season for pool parties, be sure to add this track to your party playlist. The music video shows people dancing and having a great time at an awesome pool party.
4) Canned Heat by Jamiroquai
You might recognize this groovy song from the infamous dance scene in the popular movie, Napoleon Dynamite. British band, Jamiroquai, has all the r&b feels in this funky, soul-filled dance song. Once you hear the first couple of beats, you’ll be sure to jump out of your seat and start moving along with the music. In the music video, lead vocalist Jay Kay can be seen showing off his smooth dance moves.
5) Kirakuni by Crystal Kay
One of the first songs I heard by Japanese American pop singer Crystal Kay was the upbeat song, Kirakuni. She has had an impressive music career: debuting at the age of 13, selling millions of albums, and has even recently started to break into the American music scene. Her vocals shine in this pop/r&b song where she sings about not stressing out about life and taking the time to just relax. In the music video, Crystal can be seen dancing along with her backup dancers in stylish kimono-like outfits.
