August E-Book Review!

Hello fellow readers! Welcome to the August edition of e-book review where I compile 2-3 mini-reviews of a couple of books that I’ve read on my e-reader for this month.

Review #1: The Faerie Prince (Creepy Hollow #2) by Rachel Morgan

Synopsis:

The Faerie Prince was definitely a step up from the first novel. The plot moves at a steady pace and is much smoother. This book was a little more suspenseful and thrilling because the addition of more action scenes. In book two, the focus is on mystery behind the events happening in the fae realm and the secrets starts to unravel as questions get answered.

I am definitely team Ryn now and I think he is a much better match for violet than Nate (see my first review). I also saw more character development and back stories that come with startling revelations. I was proud that Violet is definitely growing into her own and becoming the great guardian and person she wants to be.

The story leads to climatic ending and a dramatic cliffhanger. I can’t read to see what happens next!

Review #2: My Sister’s Grave (Tracy Crosswhite Series #1) by Robert Dugoni

Genre: Mystery, Fiction, Crime, Thriller

Synopsis:

Tracy Crosswhite has spent twenty years questioning the facts surrounding her sister Sarah’s disappearance and the murder trial that followed. When Sarah’s remains are finally discovered near their hometown in the northern Cascade mountains of Washington State, Tracy is determined to get the answers she’s been seeking. As she searches for the real killer, she unearths dark, long-kept secrets that will forever change her relationship to her past — and open the door to deadly danger.

Review:

This book definitely has all the elements of a gripping thriller: mystery, suspense, an unsolved case, and lots more. My Sister’s Grave is also a darker thriller, so as a fair warning to other readers, it is a bit graphic at times. The novel opens with our main protagonist, Tracy, still tormented with her sister’s murder twenty years ago and is thoroughly convinced that there are missing pieces in the case after her sister’s body is found.

Though the book starts off slowly, it definitely picks up as the story moves along. At times, I found the book to be a bit dry and I had to walk away from it a couple of times. Although I think it might have partially due to the reading mood I was in at the time. Dugoni does a fantastic job on putting intense detail into the landscape and movements of each character, placing you in the story as you race against time with Tracy in order to solve the mystery.
