Today’s Topic: The Book Calendar Tag
Found On: Cat on the Bookshelf
January: New Years – Name a new release coming out this year that you are greatly anticipating.
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
One of the very many book releases I’m excited about in 2015. I’ve even pre-ordered it. Ever since Fangirl I wanted to read more of Cath’s story.
February: Leap Year – Name a book or series that you would like to skip and refuse to read.
Moby Dick by Herman Melville
Moby Dick. I don’t mind reading classics, but the thought of this book bores me. Sorry!
March: St. Patrick’s Day – Favorite book set in the countryside or a rural area.
Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
This was one of my favorite reads back in middle school. But it was such a fun read!
April: April Fool’s – Name a book that had a story that tricked you into thinking it was going in one direction but ended up going in a completely different one.
Confessions by Kanae Minato
This book had so many twists and turns. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I was taken aback by how it ended.
May: Mother’s Day – Name a book that is always there for you, that you love and that lightens the mood when you’re feeling down.
I really don’t have any books like that, since I’m not a big re-reader. But I do find comfort in books I read when I was younger such as Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
June: Summer Solstice – Name a book that felt like it took forever to read.
Voyager by Diana Gabaldon
I read this book from May to July, so it took me a total of three months to read. It’s not that it wasn’t interesting, but it was such a dense book (about a 1000 page read). I also was reading two or three books at the time.
July: Independence Day – Name a strong and independent character that inspired you.
The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler
Elyse, the main protagonist, cannot physically speak, but her voice is never silenced. She is an admirable character who is strong even though she thinks she’s weak. And she ultimately learns to overcome her fears.
August: No Holidays – If you could create a holiday that in some way concerned books, what would it be?
It would be a holiday where could just spend the whole day reading. There would be no work or school and everyone could tap into their imaginations. 🙂
September: 9/11 Remembrance Day – What is a book that had a huge impact on you, one that you will always remember?
Anne of Green Gables by L.H. Montgomery
I love this book because Anne such a likable character and her imagination takes her on all types of adventures.
October: Halloween – What is your favorite mystery or horror book?
I don’t really have a favorite horror book since I like watching horror movies rather than books. It’s a tie between two of my favorite horror stories is The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe and The Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs.
November: Thanksgiving – What series are you most thankful exists?
Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
It’s one of my favorite series of all time and I also think it shatters a lot of the stereotypes of the typical vampire story for its genre.
December: Christmas – If you could recommend your viewers a book as a gift, what would you recommend?
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
The writing for Oscar Wao is great, and Diaz makes a fine storyteller. He mixes fiction with the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, romance, action, and etc. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Moby Dick is a book I’ll never read.
I like the short story form. From Haruki Murakami to HP Lovecraft, I devour them. My favourite Poe story is MS. Found in a Bottle. The Monkey’s Paw is a good story, too. I’m reading weird short stories by the British writer Robert Aickman. I recommend his work.
Thanks for the recommendation. I have a Murakami book (Norwegian Wood) sitting on my shelf, but I have yet to read it. I’ve always had an interest in reading Lovecraft, but I’m unsure of what story to start with first.
I really liked Elyse too! Her spiritual journey really inspired me and you’re not missing anything with Moby Dick. Probably one of the worst classics I’ve ever read second only to Grapes of Wrath lol.
Haha, I’ve never wanted to read The Grapes of Wrath. Even my favorite English teacher in high school talked about how much he hated that book, lol
Lol that’s saying something
Hey Carolyn, this is off topic, but I wanted to read your blog. Every time I click on the link for it, it gives me an error message?
Oh that’s weird, I feel like that happens a lot with wordpress for some reason.. I’m not sure how to fix it but here’s the link to my blog https://ahundredthousandstories.wordpress.com/
I want to read The Summer of Chasing Mermaids now.
