Today’s Topic: 5 Fave “New to Me” Author Discoveries

I’ve actually read just as many “new to me” authors as regular favorites this year, so I’ll pick some new authors that really had that “wow” factor for me”.

Rachel Morgan

I discovered this book sifting through my Kindle library one day and I immediately fell in love with the series. While I only gave the first book three stars I got really hooked on the Creepy Hollow books once I read the second novel. Morgan’s books are exciting and I like her take on the world of faeries and magic. If you like fantasy, you would definitely enjoy her books!

Bernadine Evaristo

After I read Blonde Roots I became enamored by Evaristo’s writing style and prose. She crafts a story so beautifully and with this novel she shows she isn’t afraid to hit the hard truths and speak out against troubling issues. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Allie Brosh

One of my favorite comedic reads of this year was Hyperbole and a Half. And though I’m like five years too late, I finally realized that her original blog is where memes like this originate from:

Brosh is witty, and hilarious as she recounts memories of her childhood and shares the daily events of her life in this novel. Needless to say, I am definitely going to be reading her blog now.

Anne Blankman

Blankman really blew me away with Prisoner of Night and Fog. If you know me by now, you know that I absolutely love historical fiction and I was impressed by Blankman’s execellent weaving of fact and fiction, during a very turbulent part of history. I’ve got to read the next book ASAP.

Suki Kim

I don’t normally read non-fiction, but I was intrigued to pick up this novel while book browsing. It’s equally part investigative journalism, part memoir, and part history. It was very eye-opening to read about a place that is usually cut off from the world and hidden behind doors. I enjoyed this novel and would like to read more from this author.
