Today’s Video: Should We Read What Everyone Else Is Reading?
This week’s video is a discussion video from Booktube Erika at The Perks of Books. She brings up the pros and cons of reading popular fiction. On one hand, it’s great to be able to read popular fiction we as readers can have a conversation about the book. On the other hand, you personally might want to diversify your own reading and not read what everyone else is reading.
In my opinion I think as a reader it’s good to balance both like Erika says. But most importantly you should read what you want to read and not what someone tells you to read.
Question of the week: How do you feel about this? Should everyone read what everyone else is reading?
Comment below and have a bookish weekend! 🙂

Certainly variety and diversity are important! For avid readers, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be reading lesser known or under-appreciated books because we read more than the average person, so we have the time.
It’s a difficult question to answer because obviously we should all read what we enjoy, but I personally see reading, blogging and discussing books as more than simple entertainment. For me it’s a form of activism.
Long story, short, a good answer is to find a balance, like you said. :]
I agree, I think if everyone read all of the same books it would be so dull. That’s why its fun to read popular fiction to discuss it with others, but read lesser known fiction and then expose a new type of book to others. When I talk to others about diverse books it’s such an eye-opening discussion.
I cannot wait to watch that featured video, but I totally believe in a good balance between both. Personally, I always am curious to see if hype lives up to a book so if it seems like a story I will really enjoy, or a movie adaptation is coming out soon I’ll read it. But I think there is a certain magic in going to the library or bookstore and just look through the shelves, picking up random unknown stories.
I definitely agree with you on movie adaptations. Sometimes I feel a bit pressured to read a book just because the movie. But I also enjoy randomly browsing though bookshelves and stores like you said.
