April-June Book Haul: “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop (Buying Books)” Edition

Hello everyone! Welcome to the second book haul of 2019! I’ve been busy reading many ARCs/ review copies in the midst of reading through books on my never-ending TBR. As my bookshelves are overflowing once again, I feel that it’s time for another Kon-Mari cleaning of my bookshelves. Though I’ve been reading through my own collection and donating books, I’m still acquiring quite a bit.

These past months I’ve been buying some bargain and used books. I got to go to a huge rummage sale where I picked up some highly anticipated reads. I also bought a lot of e-books during Harlequin’s big summer sale (I couldn’t resist the prices). Hopefully in the second half of 2019 I can cut down on book buying even more and make more space on my shelves.

Now onto the book haul!

Bought

Skyward, Vol. 1: My Low-G Life by Joe Henderson – Don’t know too much about this graphic novel, but I love the cover art. This series is about how one day, gravity on Earth suddenly became a fraction of what it is now.

Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening by Marjorie M. Liu (Writer), Sana Takeda (Artist) – I’m so excited to read this! This series tells the story of a teenage girl who is struggling to survive the trauma of war, and who shares a mysterious psychic link with a monster of tremendous power.

Out by Natsuo Kirino – After reading a couple of books by Kanae Minato, I’ve wanting to read more Japanese crime fiction. This book has been on my TBR for a while. I heard it’s pretty dark and gritty, so I hope I can handle it.

Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi – I heard this is a YA novel that reads more adult. I think it’s told partially through texts, so I’m interested to see how they incorporate it into the story.

These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly – This book is about Jo secretly dreams of becoming a writer—a newspaper reporter like the trailblazing Nellie Bly. I love a good historical fiction.

A Beautiful World, A Beautiful Life by Lindy Tsang – I’ve been a long time viewer of BubzBeauty’s makeup videos and vlogs so I thought I would check out her book to learn more about her backstory.

Inherit the Stars by Tessa Elwood – This seems like it will be a interesting space opera/love story. I heard it might have some insta-love in it so I hope its not too cheesy.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adieh – I’m intrigued by the setting of ancient Japan in this book. I’ve heard some good things about it and I love the cover art.

Jane, Unlimited by Kristen Cashore – I’ve been a fan of Cashore’s writing after reading some of her Graceling series so I really wanted to try out her new book! I look forward to reading it.

Gilded Cage by Vic James – Just by the synopsis alone: “In modern-day Britain, magic users control everything: wealth, politics, and power”, I’m hooked. Hopefully this one will be good.

Sugar by Kimberly Stuart – A romance book with two chefs and lots of delicious food? Count me in! I found this book on a complete whim so I hope it’s good.

  1. Wowza what a haul!

Off this haul, I’ve read Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine and Flame in the Mist! Eleanor Oliphant is a very unique little book. I recommend powering through the first 75 pages and not giving up until after that point. I do think it is worth it 🙂

I really enjoyed Flame in the Mist when I read it back in 2017. I was not a fan of the second book though 🙁

    1. I went overboard this time, I need to cut back with buying books lol. Thanks for the tips. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Eleanor, but I still want to read it.
