Why is diversity important to you?
Diversity is important to me in so many ways, but the following quote by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie sums it up perfectly when I think I about diversity in literature. “The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.”
What was the last diverse title you read?
Opal Charm: The Path To Dawn is the first novel in the Opal Charm series (#ownvoices). It tells the story of a young black girl who finds out she has magical powers and it’s told among the backdrop of a coming of age theme. I just finished this book and loved it. The review will be up shortly!
What are some of your favorite diverse titles?
I have so many favorites, but I’ll pick a few to share!
If you could choose one movie or TV show with diverse representation to become a book series what would it be?
Oh that’s a hard question for me
Is there a particular identity or experience you wished was touched on more in fiction?
I honestly can’t think of one specific thing. There are so many untold narratives in literature that I haven’t experienced as of yet, so I want representation from more ethnic, social, sexual identities. The more representation I see, the more I learn and can be understanding of other people.
Do you think diversity is important to BookTube & AuthorTube? Why?
Yes, I do. Such as in books I want to people to not only see themselves in the books that they read, but also to feel included in discussions as well. I’m stating to see more diversity more diversity on BookTube, but I think it could be better.
What are some of your favorite blogs and resources about diversity?
I have so many! But here are some of my favorite blogs/websites:
Romance Novels in Color / Book Riot / YA Interrobang / Diversity in YA / Rich In Color / We Need Diverse Books
