Pitbull: a book that seemed scary but was actually great
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White was a darker read than I anticipated (I love horror movies, but struggle with reading horror novels), but I loved it. It had mysterious aura and the suspense really keeps you on edge.
Beagle: a high energy book that never stopped moving
Running From a Rock Star by Jami Albright was a fun, fast paced romance that was entertaining. From the Las Vegas wedding till the end of the book the story, the writing always kept a good pace that kept the reader entertained.
Sheepdog: a book that was made of fluff
The Way You Make Me Feel by Maureen Goo is the exact summer YA contemporary novel I need when I’m looking for a fluffy read. It’s full of food trucks, romance, and family!
Mutt: a book that was a strange mix of genres
I can’t say that I’ve read any thing with a strange mix of genres, but one read that had a good mix of genres was Death’s Dancer by Jasmine Silvera. It was a nice blend of romance and fantasy!
Chihuahua: a favourite short story or poem
The whole collection of short stories from Gorilla, My Love by Toni Cade Bamabara is great! I don’t usually read short story collections, but this book is fantastic.
Basset Hound: a book with a bad cover but a great story
I can’t think of anything in particular. I know some of the romance novels I’ve read have the cheesiest covers, but the story ends up being better than I expected.
Golden Retriever: a book that (pretty much) everybody loves
I’m going to go off of Goodreads ratings for this one. Hamilton’s Battalion is a good read for any romance reader and Hamilton fan, plus it’s got a lot of high ratings from readers.
Daschund: a book that was just a little too long
I enjoyed reading Mrs. Sherlock Holmes by Brad Ricca even though parts of the novel seemed like an information dump, but I feel like that book should have been cut down by at least 100-150 pages. It was way too long!

Oh my Godddddd this post has killed me stone dead with all those adorable little puppers. And I am so glad to have been reminded about The Way You Make Me Feel! I meant to read that when it came out and got sidetracked, but it really does sound like such a joy.
And I just realized I posted this book on National Pet Day too, lol. Puppies are the best! Goo’s book makes the best summertime read.
