Today’s Topic: Happy Thanksgiving Book Tag

Found At: The OC Book Girl

Bread- What book is purely fluff, and has no real plot line?

Maple Sugar Crush is a fluffy romance novel that channels all the goodness of a Hallmark romance film. This novel gave me all the Autumn feelings from the maple-flavored drinks to the lush scenery of the season. Josie, the main character, finds a bit of romance and also goes on a journey of self-discovery.

Turkey- What book made you want to fall asleep?

Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke. It was so weird, and nothing made sense at all to me. I wanted to finish the book anyway, and the plot felt unresolved.

Gravy- What book makes the whole series worth reading?

Dawn Among The Stars by Samantha Heuwagen. It’s the first installment in The Starless Series. The plot follows Kayin who lives in a world where aliens and humans somewhat co-exist on the same planet. There is so much more to this galactic series than what meets the eye and it’s full of action, romance, suspense, and so much more.

Stuffing- What book is stuffed full of action scenes?

The manga series Kaiju No. 8 by Naoya Matsumoto. It’s action-packed, full of deadly monsters, and has fight scenes that will put the reader on the edge of their seat. The story seems familiar but brings a unique take on the monster trope. The main character, Kafka, is a person who the reader can root for and the readers get to watch him navigate a promising yet frightening journey.

Mashed Potatoes- What book looked good, and then wasn’t?

The Chaos by Nalo Hopkinson. In this novel, the main character navigates the world between myth and chaos through a journey of self-discovery. I felt the novel was weird and underwhelming. The plot felt a bit all over the place for me.

Cranberries- What book has the sweetest romance?

Forbidden by Beverly Jenkins. Following the story of Eddy, readers go with her on her journey to pick up the pieces after her dreams of owning a business are temporarily put on hold. While putting her life back together her encounter with Rhine changes things. The romance felt realistic while also being very swoonworthy!

Corn- What’s the corniest book you’ve ever read?

I can’t think of any books that were corny reads, just ones that were cheesy.

Green beans- What book is too long and needs to be shortened?

Rebel Queen by Michelle Moran. It’s fictional account of the final years of the Indian kingdom of Jhansi before Britain’s conquest and unification of India’s separate states. It was good but a lot of parts of the book felt lengthy and could have been cut out.

Pumpkin Pie- What book do you read to get out of a reading slump?

Any kind of cozy or lighthearted graphic novel. Graphic novels are my go-to for sure. I recommend Curlfriends: New in Town by Sharee Miller. Curlfiends is a beautiful celebration of friendship, family, and staying true to yourself. Through the first installment of this series, we get to see the main character Charlie open herself to others and become more confident.

Dog/Cat- What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food that you would steal from the table?

Mac and cheese! It’s my favorite side dish.
