Today’s Topic: The Cozy Autumn Book Tag!

Found At: A Dance With Books

1) Creepy house on the corner of the street: Book with a creepy cover

The Girl From The Well follows the story of Tarquin, a teenage boy who is haunted by a malicious spirit known as the “woman in black”. The cover alone is enough to give any reader chills down their spine and sets the tone for the overall story. (Review)

2) Lights out (party poopers): A book you want to read when you want to escape

Mandrake and a Murder is a fun first installment of a cozy mystery series that has a paranormal twist. The story is about Hazel who is supposed to be a witch but is a late bloomer when coming into her powers. If you like supernatural tales and lighthearted mysteries this was a great read. In the town, it feels as if it’s permanently Halloween even when the seasons change. It’s got the feeling of a cozy small town in a Hallmark movie and some unique fantasy elements that tie into the story.

3) The house that gives out the cheap candy: Guilty pleasure book

Fangs is a cute graphic novel about an unlikely romance between Elsie the vampire, and Jimmy, the werewolf. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a guilty pleasure read but it’s a cozy and fast-paced read. The romance is really cute and the plot has many humorous moments.

4) The house with the best decorations on the block: Best haunting/Halloween-themed cover

When a local TV witch is murdered in Caught Dead Handed, Lee Barrett must find the killer before she becomes the next victim. It’s a solid cozy mystery with lots of twists and turns. I love the cover art and it channels the setting of Halloween in Salem in the novel.

5) The house that gives out the best candy: #1 Halloween recommendation

In this tale the main character, Daniel is desperate for a job at the risk of being homeless. Against his better judgment, he receives a job as a groundskeeper at an ancient estate, Craven Manor. It has all of the formulaic bits of a haunted house story, but Coates adds some unique elements to make the story entertaining. It was one of those novels that I thought I had figured out and then the plot did a 180-degree spin on me.

Speed Round

1) Corn Maze or Haunted House?

Corn Maze. As much as I love horror films, I cannot handle Haunted House attractions at all. I’m the scaredy-cat in the group whenever I’ve gone in the past.

2) Classic or Unique Costume?

Hmm, I love unique costumes. Especially when you can take a classic costume and put a unique spin on it, I think it’s even cooler.

3) Sexy or Scary Costume?

Scary costumes! I wasn’t allowed to wear scary costumes as a child as much as I wanted to. One year I want to go all out and do a zombie costume.

4) Comedy or Horror Halloween Film?

I’m always going to say yes to a comedy film.

5) Chocolate or Sour Candy?

Chocolate!
