Favorite Adventure Films!
Hello Everyone! I thought I would put together a compilation of some of my all-time favorite Adventure themed films I’ve watched over the years. There’s nothing like an action-packed film with a quest or some type of journey to get your heart racing. Enjoy these picks!
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
Synopsis: Capt. Jack Sparrow arrives at Port Royal in the Caribbean without a ship or crew. His timing is inopportune, however, because later that evening the town is besieged by a pirate ship. The pirates kidnap the governor’s daughter, Elizabeth , who’s in possession of a valuable coin that is linked to a curse that has transformed the pirates into the undead. A gallant blacksmith (Orlando Bloom) in love with Elizabeth allies with Sparrow in pursuit of the pirates.
Though the second and third films are still decent, but the first film is the best! And then Disney decided that they needed to keep continually making sequels (why?!). Anyways, I love pirate themed stories and period dramas, so I was immediately drawn to this film. I like how this film pays homage to 1950s style of pirate movies and pokes fun at the film genre’s tropes. It’s got a dangerous quest, swash-buckling fight scenes, and memorable characters that stay with you after the film ends.
Jurassic Park
Synopsis: In Steven Spielberg’s massive blockbuster, paleontologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler and mathematician Ian Malcolm are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park’s mastermind, billionaire John Hammond, assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt.
I don’t know why, but I am obsessed with dinosaurs and I find paleontology to be very interesting. No matter how many times I watch this film, I never get tired of it. It’s laced with humor even in the most serious and tense moments of danger. I love the suspense factor of this film because the viewers know that danger is imminent, it’s just a matter of when it will happen. The film takes its time getting to point where all chaos breaks loose instead of jumping into the action right away.
The Mummy
Synopsis: The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Stumbling upon an ancient tomb, the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead.
I was also fascinated by Egyptology from a young age so I was immediate drawn to this movie from the opening credits. It’s got everything you need in a adventure movie and more. On top of the gorgeous cinematography of the landscape, I also was in awe by the special effects of this amazing movie. What makes this movie so memorable for me is the character and the acting. The on-screen chemistry is great!
Jumanji
Synopsis: A magical board game unleashes a world of adventure on siblings Peter and Judy Shepherd. While exploring an old mansion, the youngsters find a curious, jungle-themed game called Jumanji in the attic. When they start playing, they free Alan Parrish, who’s been stuck in the game’s inner world for decades. If they win Jumanji, the kids can free Alan for good — but that means braving giant bugs, ill-mannered monkeys and even stampeding rhinos!
Jumanji is an absolute classic! I secretly wanted to play this game as a kid, but at the same time I didn’t in fear that I would actually release wild animals into my neighborhood. I love that this movie celebrate the joy of board games and the fun that it can bring to its players. It’s a film that is crazy, exciting, and is full of twists and turns. You aren’t sure what will happen next as the dice is rolled and it’s the uncertainty that brings the adventure out in this film!
Guardians of the Galaxy
Synopsis: Brash space adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb’s true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.
I must admit that this was the film that got me more invested into watching more Marvel movies. I love films that have a rag-tag group that go on a journey and this film was a bonus for me because it took place in space. I enjoyed the plot, action, and quick banter between members of the Guardian crew. The music is excellent and is one my favorite OSTs ever. it really enhanced the viewing experience of this film.
The Goonies
Synopsis: Old-fashioned yarn about a band of adventurous kids who take on the might of a property developing company which plans to destroy their home to build a country club. When the children discover an old pirate map in the attic, they follow it into an underground cavern in search of lost treasure but come up against plenty of dangerous obstacles along the way.
This is a feel-good adventure film that I feel like everyone should watch. It feels nostalgic and calls to the viewers inner kid. Who wouldn’t want to discover an old map and find buried treasure?! The Goonies is a film that I can always watch or put on the background when I pick me up movie. It’s humorous and I love all the classic adventure tropes that are thrown into the midst to entertain its audiences.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Synopsis: In 19th century Qing Dynasty China, a warrior gives his sword, Green Destiny, to his lover to deliver to safe keeping, but it is stolen, and the chase is on to find it. The search leads to the House of Yu where the story takes on a whole different level.
Besides the amazing action-packed fight scenes, what I enjoyed the most about this movie is the attention to detail. From the intricacy of the battle sequences, beautiful outfits, to the beautiful cinematography. It’s a film that is breathtaking and that has viewers on the edge of their seats wondering what will happen next. A must watch!

Loved the old Jumanji, but I also loved the new Jumanji with the Rock and Kevin Hart. It was so funny!
It was! I always feel like the old version will always be more special to me because of nostalgic. But I love the new twist on the story in the recent version.
