Favorite Holiday Movie Picks!
Hello everyone! Since the holidays are here, I decided to share five of my favorite holiday movies. I love watching Christmas movies and the happy feeling they give me.This list could honestly reach 50, but to spare you guys I’ll only pick five. Enjoy!
1) Elf (2006)
Synopsis: This popular film stars Will Ferrell as one of Santa’s elves who learns of his true identity as a human and goes to New York City to meet his biological father, spreading Christmas cheer in a world of cynics as he goes.
I honestly can’t believe it’s already been nine years since this movie was released. Ferrell truly shines in this movie with his hilarious antics as a jolly elf. It’s a fun movie for everyone and it reminds people to spread happiness.
2) The Holiday (2006)
Synopsis: Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.
This by far, my top favorite holiday romantic comedy. It’s got a star studded cast that includes Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Jude Law, and Cameron Diaz. The plot is well written, the landscapes are beautiful, and you’ll fall in love with the characters.
3) The Family Stone (2005)
Synopsis: The plot follows the Christmas holiday misadventures of the Stone family in a small New England town when the eldest son, played by Mulroney, brings his uptight girlfriend home with the intention of proposing to her with a cherished heirloom ring. Overwhelmed by the hostile reception, she begs her sister to join her for emotional support, triggering further complications.
This movie is fantastic! While it’s a comedy, it’s also bittersweet too. The movie is full of recognizable actors who do their part in creating these moving and realistic characters. The thing I love the most about this film is that it reminds you about the importance of cherishing your family.
4) Jingle All The Way (1996)
Synopsis: The plot focuses on two rival fathers, workaholic Howard Langston and stressed out postal worker Myron Larabee, both desperately trying to retrieve a Turbo-Man action figure for their respective sons on a last-minute shopping spree on Christmas Eve.
Though it can be somewhat cheesy, this movie is downright hilarious. Arnold Schwarzenegger and comedian Sinbad team up in this movie as two dads trying to get their hands on the most wanted toy of the year. It’s funny to watch the crazy antics they go through in order to get this toy. If you’re looking for another comedy featuring Schwarzenegger I’d also recommend Kindergarten Cop.
5) Home Alone (1990)
Synopsis: The film stars Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, a boy who is mistakenly left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation.
This is hands-down one of the best movies of all time! It doesn’t even have to be Christmas for me to want to watch this movie. The soundtrack by John Williams is absolutely gorgeous and this movie is great for the family. Who could resist watching Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as two bumbling burglars?

Ohh you’re killing me with The Family Stone!! That is one of my all time favorite holiday movies! It’s a heart crusher, but I love it! 🙂
Yes, it is a heart crusher, but it’s so good!
Home Alone is a good one!
In terms of movies I love to watch over Christmas, The Nightmare Before Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life are two, partly because they are brilliant and partly because of tradition.
Nightmare Before Christmas is hands down my favorite Tim Burton film. It’s horrible to say this, but I still haven’t watched It’s a Wonderful Life, yet. I need to watch it for sure this year!
