Favorite Holiday TV Specials
It’s that Holly Jolly time of year and that means Christmas themed TV episodes. Along with my other holiday themed posts I’m sharing throughout the month of December, today I’m talking about TV specials. Here are some notable Christmas episodes/TV specials that I’ve enjoyed over the years.
Synopsis: Mr Bean goes Christmas shopping, conducts a Salvation Army band, and has Christmas dinner with his long-suffering girlfriend.
I watched quite a lot of Mr. Bean as a kid and every year I look forward to re-watching this Christmas special. Mr. Bean, as per usual, gets into wacky antics while Christmas shopping, decorating, and preparing dinner. It’s hilarious and always manages to me smile. If you like slapstick comedy give this one a watch.
Synopsis: While Retsuko desperately makes plans for Christmas Eve, her new obsession with seeking validation through social media spirals out of control.
I love Aggretsuko so much. While this holiday episode is entertaining, it also acts as commentary on social media’s influence. It makes you really aware of how damaging it can be as we watch Retsuko become obsessed with Instagram. It’s a good lesson to be learned and it’s comedic like the rest of the series.
Synopsis: Sam and Dean hunt down the `anti-Santa’ who is crawling down chimneys and kidnapping victims. Sam can’t accept that this will be the last Christmas he’ll spend with his brother.
I love Supernatural and this Christmas themed episode takes a more sinister spin on the holidays. It reminds me of the horror movie Krampus with it’s warped twist on the usual cheery things we enjoy about Christmas. And who doesn’t enjoy the Winchester brothers trying to take down the paranormal? This episode was thrilling!
Synopsis: Based on the 1957 children’s book of the same name by Dr. Seuss, the story of the Grinch trying to take away Christmas from the townsfolk of Whoville below his mountain hideaway.
It’s not Christmas without watching the Grinch every year. Out of all the versions that have been made, this one continues to be my favorite. I love the animation, the cute Whoville townspeople, and message of the true meaning of Christmas. As I write this, the catchy Whoville Christmas song is playing on repeat in my head.
Synopsis: Phryne’s Christmas in July turns deadly when trapped inhabitants at a snowed-in mountain lodge find themselves being killed off according to the song The Twelve Days of Christmas.
The title alone gives off a cozy mystery vibe and I love it. I adore the Miss Fisher’s series and I like that this episode is a blend of festive and suspense. The viewers and the characters are trying to piece together clues based off the popular Christmas song. There are some fun twists and turns in this holiday special.
Synopsis: Arnold tries to find My Hyunh’s long-lost daughter to reunite the pair for Christmas. Meanwhile, Helga discovers the true meaning of Christmas as well.
Hey Arnold! will forever be my favorite Nicktoons and it’s because of episodes like this. It’s one of a many episodes in the series that made me cry because the story is heartwarming and touching. It will make you hold your loved ones even tighter. It’s one of the most memorable episodes in the series!
I hope you enjoyed these Holiday TV special picks. Do you have any favorites that you’ve watched over the years?
Such wonderful choices! I rewatched part of Frosty the Snowman because it was on TV earlier this week, and it was charming but definitely not one of my favorites. But a friend and I are planning to watch It’s a Wonderful Life together on Zoom tomorrow evening, and I still haven’t seen Jingle Jangle so there are very good things ahead. 😀
I still have never watched “It’s a Wonderful Life” yet. Jingle Jangle is on my list too! Happy holidays. 🙂
