Fictional Libraries I Love – Part 3
Since I’ve seen so many libraries in my life that I want to visit, why not share some of my favorite fictional libraries with you. Here are some memorable ones I wish were real! Click here to see part two of my library picks.
The Library of the Dead – Edinburgh Nights Series

The novel takes readers through the streets, alleys, and cemeteries of Edinburgh as Ropa tries to navigate her quest for answers. Supernatural occurrences happen in the most mundane of places adding many exciting twists and turns throughout the story. The Library of the Dead scenes were the highlight of the story for me. Though ominous and creepy but somehow it also seems inviting as well. From the unique layout, café, and the magical books it’s an interesting place to explore.
Apothecary Diaries – Royal Palace Library

In Apothecary Diaries, Maomao is sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. She ends up catching the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now, she’s making a name for herself solving medical mysteries! I think visiting a royal palace’s library would be such a memorable experience. Maomao gets access to files for the cases she solves, learns about the history of emperor’s past, and so much more!
The Libraries of Home Office Romance

This cozy romance is a standalone manga that takes place during the pandemic. The story is a opposites attract that feels realistic as the characters feel fleshed out rather than formulaic. Readers spend a lot of time in the main characters home, Nokoru and Natsu. In doing so, we get a sneak peek of their home libraries filled with manga and and adventure stories. I was particularily interested in Nokoru’s collection since it seems like he reads a lot of action/high-fantasy themed stories.
Love on Paper – Betty Quinn’s Library

As a writer and fan of all things romance, Love on Paper is a story that I highly recommend and enjoyed thoroughly. he novel’s premise of a prestigious writing camp was fun. But the quest of the mysterious author, Betty Quinn, will send Macy and her writing partner, Caleb, on a quest they won’t forget. Being that Betty is a prolific romance writer, a visit to the library is such a treat for the budding writers. I think touring a romance writer’s library would be so much fun to see where they draw inspiration from and the romance novels that they enjoy reading.
What are some of your favorite fictional libraries?
Just this morning I re-discovered a photocopy I made a few weeks ago, from Ibi Zoboi’s biography of Octavia Butler about her experience of the public library (where she was restricted to the “Peter Pan Room” until she was 14 years old…the children’s section…which was frustrating for her. But she did read a lot of horse stories and fairy tales apparently too. I really loved Zoboi’s book! 😍
