Barbie

Barbie and Ken are having the time of their lives in the colorful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.
This movie was just as good as I expected it to be. It brought my childhood to life and reminded me of the Barbie dolls I grew up playing with. It’s very nostalgic and I think the director along with the crew and actors brought these dolls to life. They managed to place them in the real world but also keep their doll mannerisms. It’s a movie geared towards adults, and it also speaks volumes about what women face daily and gender inequality issues.
One of Them Days

When her boyfriend takes her rent money, Alyssa and her roommate race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact.
It’s been a while since I’ve been wanting to go to the theatres to see a comedy that didn’t feel like a “bro” movie. This movie was a wild, and fun ride from beginning to end. It’s a feel-good movie that doesn’t take itself to seriously and most of all it centers Black voices. SZA and Keke Palmer do a great job of feeding off each’s other energy on screen and playing the roles of two besties desperate to achieve their goals. The film offers a lot of cameos of familiar faces and lots of comedic moments that had that theatre laughing out loud.
Queenpins

A frustrated suburban housewife and her best friend hatch an illegal coupon-club scheme that scams millions from corporations and delivers deals to legions of fellow coupon clippers. Hot on their trail is an unlikely duo — a hapless loss-prevention officer and a determined U.S. postal inspector — both looking to end their criminal enterprise.
Since this film is based on a true story, I feel like it blends true crime along with comedy. It’s funny, action-packed, and shocking (seeing as someone was able to get away with such a huge coupon scheme). It’s lighthearted for the most part making it an easy watch and very enjoyable (despite what Rotten Tomatoes says). It’s also a bit ironic considering the women the movie were only doing the same exact things that giant corporate companies who practice all kinds of illegal activities. The performance of the roles were done well and even though some parts were dramatized it added to the entertainment factor of the film.
Jumping From High Places

To honor her best friend’s last wish, a young woman with severe anxiety confronts her greatest fears to try and reclaim her life — and perhaps find love.
This film is a feel-good inspiring movie. As a person who also struggles with anxiety, I felt like I could relate to this film deeply. More importantly, I think it’s a movie that will resonate with anyone because of its message of overcoming your fears and doing things that may scare you in life. This film is heartfelt and incredibly cute, I appreciated the theme of taking chances and how Sole takes on this daunting list with the help of new friends. In the process of living her life fully she also finally confronts her grief and tries to move on. The cinematography is beautiful!
