Indie Bookstores to Visit in Metro Detroit Pt.3

Hello everyone! I love visiting independent bookstores and shopping at local businesses regularly. Because it’s important to #shopsmall, here are some bookstores in the Metro Detroit area that you should visit when you’re here. Some of these shops have websites that you can shop at as well if you can’t shop in person! (Previous List Here)

Book Suey

Book Suey is a cooperatively owned bookstore located in Hamtramck, Michigan. Not only a bookseller the store also provides a connection to local writers and publishers through small events too. The bookstore is a repurposed bank (built in the early 1920s) which gives it a historic atmosphere. The architecture is so beautiful. Though a small store, you’re sure to find a book to take home with their wide variety of reads. It’s an excellent indie store that places a heavy focus on community.

Warp 9 Comics

For the comic book reader, check out Warp 9 Comics in Clawson, Michigan. Since the store’s opening in 1999, they’ve sold so many comic books, but they also carry many collectibles, toys, and figurines. Do not let this store’s small size let you be fooled as each nook and cranny is filled to the brim with goods. It’s carefully organized, and they carry comics for every type of reader. The staff s friendly and they offer memberships for those who want to pick up new titles on a more regular basis.

All Metro Detroit bookworms should check out Brown’s Family Bookstore located in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. This bookstore is filled to the brim with all types of books. The store sells a mixture of used and new books for customers. The staff is accommodating and will order books for you that they don’t have in stock. There is an overall cozy book nook to this store that makes it so welcoming to it’s customers.

Comics & More

Another comic bookstore on this list! Comics & More is a store I love to visit annually on Free Comic Book Day or when I am just looking for new readers. Located in Madison Heights, Michigan the store carries comic books, graphic novels, toys, MTG, Pokémon and more. It’s got some fun décor that really adds to the store’s bright atmosphere, and I can usually find just about any comic I’m looking for. I really appreciate how this store has an equally large adult section of reads and all ages comic books.

C Mac Neill Book Dealer

While this store specializes in literature, you’ll find a wide selection of books from every genre. The store primarily carries used books and friendly dogs that greet every customer. I enjoy this store’s variety and how you can find almost any book in all genres. There isn’t much of a children’s section, but you can find some not so typical books at this bookstore. All in all, a good store to visit if you’re in the market for a different type of book.

Stay tuned for part four! What bookstores do you like to visit in your area?

  1. These all look great! We have a dearth of indie bookshops in Birmingham, believe it or not, even though we’re England’s Second City. But we have TWO coming to my suburb soon, a children’s one and an adults’ one, and we also have a lovely craft shop that carries a lot of diverse picture books for small children. Watch out for a report on the two new ones next month when they’re open!

    1. Glad you enjoyed the post! Every time I find a new comic book store in the area I get excited. I still have some on my list that I haven’t visited yet.
