My 5 Favorite Bookworm Essentials
All a reader truly needs is a good book in their hands that are good to go. It’s no secret that every bookworm has its own quirks and essentials needed to settle down with a good book. Today I’ll be sharing some of my own favorite “bookworm essentials” that I use frequently.
Reading Journal

I’ll admit that I’m not always consistent with writing in journals as I would like to be, but I love my reading journal. I have had quite a few over the years. I mainly use them to jot down notes for book reviews on the blog or just when I want to document what was memorable for me (book-wise). I did a book bujo in 2021 but never completed it, so maybe I’ll try again in 2023?
Bookish Mugs

I have a wide range of mugs in my cup collection. But to be fair, I do rotate the ones I use (except for rare collectibles). If a mug has a bookworm pun or something literary on it, I am immediately drawn to it. I’ve featured some of them on the Bookstagram/blog previously in the past. I think these mugs make great reading companions and conversation starters. I usually drink tea or coffee when I read books.
Book Sleeves

I’m a bit late to the book sleeve trend since I just became fascinated with them about two years ago. But now that I have a couple of them, I understand all the hype surrounding them. As a reader who is always taking books with me on the go, the sleeves help protect my books when I carry them in a bag. They keep my book protected from damage and the material is so cozy.
Book Themed Tote Bags

Like my mugs, I also have a gigantic collection of tote bags, and a good chunk of them are book themed. I have ones that bring awareness to banned books, murals of novels, and notable quotes from writers. I use them in rotation and love to carry them especially when I go to literary events or the library. The tote bags are so sturdy, and I love that I can reuse them repeatedly.
Bookmarks

One of my many bookish pet peeves is dog-eared or folded pages, so I use bookmarks. I have so many of them and when I can’t get to one, I usually use a piece of paper as a placeholder until I can grab a bookmark. They are so colorful and my number one bookish essential.
What are some of your own favorite bookworm essentials? Let me know in the comments.
I haven’t got into book sleeves, I don’t really go anywhere so don’t take books with me – I tend to take my Kindle out with me and read it through a sandwich bag for ease of wiping down, still in pandemic mode! I have many many bookmarks, though, real ones and then cards that have come with books from friends. I have a mug with my own book covers on that a friend had made, but I have enough mugs anyway. Book journals, I have at least 5 blank ones just in case I suddenly can’t get squared paper A5 notebooks … !
It sounds like you have lots of bookish essentials. I have a cover on my Kindle constantly so it’s easy to take it on the go rather than my paper books. I think I’ve also used a card as a bookmark at one point in time.
