My Favorite Things 2022: TV
As 2022, comes to a close. I’ll be sharing my favorites of the year, and chatting about my top picks. I’m starting off with TV Shows. Even though I’ve had many binge-watching sessions throughout the year, I’m still playing catch up with a lot of newer releases as well as older shows. Here’s a list of shows I watched in 2022 that topped my favorites list.
Only Murders in The Building
Three strangers share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one. When a grisly death occurs inside their exclusive Upper West Side apartment building, the trio suspects murder and employs their precise knowledge of true crime to investigate the truth. Perhaps even more explosive are the lies they tell one another. Soon, the endangered trio comes to realize a killer might be living among them as they race to decipher the mounting clues before it’s too late.
I finished watching Season One of this show in two days. And then when Season Two was released I watched it eagerly as well. If you are a fan of murder mysteries, true crime, or thrillers this show is for you. Gomez, Short, and Martin make a fantastic trio of amateur sleuths trying to discover the secrets in their apartment building. I liked how the show changed the POV perspectives for each episode which added to the suspense and gave backgrounds to each character. This show isn’t as gritty as most thriller shows and it balances a lot of the heavier content with comedy (kind of like a cozy mystery in TV form). I can’t wait to see what happens next season!
All of Us Are Dead
After a failed science experiment, a local high school is overrun with zombies, and the trapped students struggle to survive. With no food or water, and communication cut-off by the government, they must use equipment around the school to protect themselves in the midst of a battleground or they will become part of the infected.
I love to watch zombie films/TV shows so I was very intrigued by the trailer for this webtoon adaptation on Netflix. From the cinematography to the plot this show does not disappoint at all. It’s action-packed and fast-moving while also keeping the focus balanced between the character relationships and the impending danger of the situation. While the show is mainly focused on trying to navigate through a zombie apocalypse, we also see the enemies that form within the survival groups. Underneath the surface, the show comments on politics, bullying, money, social classes, and more. My favorite part was the characters as this show has some particularly well-written villains and overall great character development.
Back to 15
Thirty-year-old Anita travels back to age 15 and starts meddling with everybody’s lives, until she realizes the only life that needs fixing is her own.
What would you do if you could go back to being a teenager? What would you change? It has an interesting premise of time travel as the main character is transported back and forth through her photoblog (think Myspace). It’s comedic but most of all it’s a story about the decisions we make in our lives and how it affects us/others. I thought this show was charming and full of heart. It took me back to my teenage years and made me reflect on my own life. Even though Anita is stuck in her 15-year-old body with her 30-year-old mind the experience has her reflect and grow as she learns what her true passion is and what matters most to her.
Business Proposal
In disguise as her friend, Ha-ri shows up on a blind date to scare away her friend’s prospective suitor. However, plans go awry when he turns out to be Ha-ri’s CEO and he makes a proposal.
All the K-Drama fans have been raving about this cute and comedic drama, so I decided to give it a watch when it was released on Netflix.I haven’t read the original webtoon it is based on so I’m not sure how close it compares. It’s funny, entertaining, and wacky as it plays on a lot of common K-Drama tropes. The casting is key in this show and Kim Sejong as the lead really charms the audience. And Ahn Hyo-Seop as the male lead is so handsome. Every episode is enjoyable to watch and it’s a show that makes me laugh out loud.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo
Woo Young-Woo is extremely smart and she also has autism spectrum disorder. She never forgets what she sees, but she lacks in social skills and empathy. Woo Young-Woo begins to work as a trainee lawyer at a large law firm. While working there, she faces prejudice and irrationality against her, but she solves cases with her own unique perspective and grows as a lawyer.
This show!!! I haven’t binge-watched or seen a drama aired in real time except for All of Us Are Dead earlier this year. This drama made me laugh, cry, reflect, and grow with each and every one of its characters. It’s such a beautiful story of overcoming obstacles, but also making our way through life’s firsts and overcoming prejudice. Though there are some heavier topics laced within the plot the show is so warmhearted and light. The key to why so many people and I love this drama so much is not only the plot but the casting. From the on-screen romance chemistry to office rivalry each actor had you engaged. Park Eun-bin does an incredible job as Young-Woo. I look forward to watching more of her dramas!
