My Favorite Things: February
My Favorite Things” is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!
TV
Love is Blind
Synopsis: The series follows thirty men and women who will hopefully find love; however, throughout the process, they will never see their partners. For ten days in a speed dating format, the men and women dated each other in different “pods” where they could talk to each other, but never see each other. Whenever they decided, the men were able to propose to the woman they want to get married to. After the proposal, they revealed themselves to their partner, where they were able to see each other for the first time.
This show is one of the top trending shows on Netflix right now. It’s pretty interesting to see them branch out more into the reality show sector of TV shows. Love is Blind has an interesting concept that piqued my interest and asks the question is love really blind? Some of the couple pairing outcomes were surprising to me, but curious to see how the show will end. I’m only halfway through the first season, and I know more surprises are on the way.
Wotakoi: Love is Hard For Otaku
Synopsis: The main characters are Narumi, a female office worker who hides her fujoshi lifestyle, and Hirotaka, a handsome and capable company man who is a game otaku. The two seem perfect for each other, but love is difficult for otaku.
I’ve been wanting to read this manga/watch this anime for a while now. It’s cute, lighthearted, and full of nerdiness. I always find myself laughing at each episode and I like it’s relatability. It’s cute to see two longtime friends who decided to become a couple and to see them adapt to being a couple. Anyone is apart of a fandom, a gamer, or a nerd in general will enjoy this show and how it tackles being a geek in the workplace.
One Day At a Time: Season 3
Synopsis: The series depicts the everyday life of a Cuban-American family with each character finding their own journey. Following the story of Penelope Alvarez, a United States Army Nurse Corps veteran, facing her return to civilian life with a lot of unresolved issues from her time in the Army.
I love how this series has grown since Season One! I’m still peeved that Netflix cancelled the series, but am so happy that Season 4 got picked up by PopTV! I enjoy the characters development over time, the humor, and how it weaves in more serious social topics into the overall narrative. It’s real, emotional, and lighthearted. I can’t wait to watch more episodes!
Love of 7.7 Billion
Synopsis: Love of 7.7 Billion is a program where young men and women representing 7.7 billion people around the world share their views on love and marriage.
I’ve been a reality show kick lately so I decided to watch this new show from JTBC. Like the synopsis says it’s basically an open forum about love and marriage and it has people from around the globe give insight on various topics/reports that are presented for that week. I’ve learned a lot about customs in different parts of the world and I like that show has some solid, healthy debates on it. I’ll continue to tune in.
Beauty
Honey Lip Scrub by Lush
This is made with a combination of syrupy honey, creamy white chocolate and aromatic vanilla. A quick scrub with a pinch of this gets lips soft thanks to conditioning jojoba oil, according to Lush’s website. This is the second time I’ve used a lip scrub and what I enjoy about this one is the sweet aroma and how quickly it dissolves!
Music
Congratulations by Eric Nam
I just saw Eric Nam live in concert, so I thought it would be fitting to include one of his songs. His new album Before We Begin is fantastic and this track is one of my favorites. It’s a danceable song about celebrating a breakup. It’s so catchy and I love to sing along whenever I hear it.
S Club Party by S Club 7
I’ve been a nostalgia mood with my music lately and I’ve been listening to some old jams. I was obsessed with S Club 7 as a kid and used to watch the show a lot. Though their music was cheesy pop, there’s something about 2000’s pop that you can’t get from today’s music.
Fly Away by Jessie Reyez
I was introduced to Jessie after learning about her music after a interview and performance on The Daily Show. There’s something about her vocals that are soulful and melodic. She reminds me of a couple of my favorite singers, but stands out with her distinct sound. I’ll be checking out more of her music.
Podcasts
Survival
Synopsis: When the stakes are life and death, you’d be surprised at the lengths you’d go to survive. Pain, hunger, and fear can seem like paralyzing obstacles, but in the face of real danger, they’re actually what keeps us alive. Every Monday, we’ll follow a different survivor’s visceral and inspiring fight for life, and examine how the trauma impacted them forever. These are the stories of what happens when the human self-preservation instinct is pushed to its limit, through the eyes of the world’s most resilient survivors.
This is a very interesting podcast that tells the stories of survivals from natural disasters, people being stranded, great escapes, and more. The narrators have such captivating voices for telling these stories and I like how they also give background information about the time, science of survival, and history of each story. It’s a gripping podcast!
Ask Me About K-Pop
Synopsis: Have you ever been curious about Kpop, but don’t know where to start? Or are you a huge Kpop fan with no one else to geek out with about it? Lucky for you, best friends Shannon & Angelica love talking about Kpop more than anything! Tune into Ask Me About Kpop each week for Kpop history, vocabulary words, great music, and of course some good old fashioned fangirling.
I’ve been a long time K-Pop fan since 2009 so I enjoy any K-pop podcast I can find online. This podcasts have very entertaining hosts that give honest opinions about K-pop news and music. I also enjoy that they do in-depth episodes on some influential artists and give props to the older artists (and bands that have been disbanded.
