Podcasts
Young Gifted Abroad
Perspectives on studying abroad from past and present students of color.
A classmate that I used to share Japanese classes with back in college started this podcast a while back and I’ve been listening to some episodes. I love it so much! Danielle is such an awesome host and she has very interesting Q&A with students of color who have traveled abroad and their personal experiences. Through this podcast I’ve learned about new places, different cultures, and even picked up some tips for when I want to travel abroad in the future. If you like travel podcasts, check this out!
Lore
Lore is a podcast about non-fiction scary stories. Each episode examines historical events that show the dark side of human nature and is presented in a style that’s been compared to a campfire experience.
I’ve been hearing about Lore for years now, but never summed up the courage to listen to this podcast until now. I love scary movies, but it’s something about reading horror novels or audio books that really gets too me. Aaron, is such a great host and his voice is perfect for storytelling. There’s tales of mystery and the unexplainable that sends chills down your spines. If you like spooky stories, this one is must listen to.
TV
Welcome to the Ballroom
Synopsis: Third-year middle school student Tatara Fujita is a guy who has no plans for his future or dreams, but tries to find something he can pursue with his whole life. With him being bullied and extorted, he is saved from delinquents by a man named Kaname Sengoku, a motorcycle-riding dance instructor. Tatara is entered into the Ogasawara Dance Studio in which he is shown the ropes of the world of Competitive Ballroom Dancing.
One thing you must know about me is that I love dancing! Especially when it comes to the world of Ballroom Dancing. I’ve been hearing about this show and manga, for the longest time and was intrigued by its premise. The animation is spectacular and I love the detail put into the dance sequences. But this show is not all about glittery ball gowns and tuxedos, it’s more so focused on the hard-work that these dances put into their art. Fujita learns to fall in love with dancing and is determined to show that he’s got what it takes to compete.
Tidying Up With Mario Kondo
Synopsis: When people lead busy lives, their homes sometimes become cluttered with things piling up over time. In this series, renowned tidying expert Marie Kondo tries to help folks declutter their homes — and their lives.
I haven’t finished this series yet, but so far I like it. Last year I tried the Konmari method for myself and I found when I put my mind to it, I actually got rid of so much stuff. It’s interesting to watch the different types of families/people shown in each episode and how they come to terms with having too much clutter and what they choose to get rid of. I love HGTV or any home shows like this, so I’m not surprised that I’m hooked on this show.
Music
I love the throwback/R&B sound to Lizzo’s music. This song a retro-inspired funk, rap, and funk-pop song that is based on a throwback groove. It’s a self-love anthem that is positive and it’s a great song to get you moving if you’re having a middle of the day slump.
I’m a big fan of Utada’s music since the 2000’s and I was so excited to hear that she would be singing the title tracks for Kingdom Hearts 3. It’s a got a futuristic pop sound that is so catchy and the lyrics are motivational too! Hopefully Utada will release another full-length album soon!
I’ve been in a mood to listen to some 2000’s throwbacks lately and this song used to be on repeat on my Ipod. It’s got a smooth guitar melody and some catchy lyrics. I hope BEP will come back with some new music soon!

OMG Welcome to the Ballroom sounds amazing!! I’m adding that to my list. My favorite thing in February was indubitably One Day at a Time. I wept through the third season and now I’m rewatching it from the beginning, and it’s everything. I love this charming wholesome-ass show so much, I hope and pray that enough people watch it that Netflix renews it for a fourth season.
It is so far! I really like it. I have not watched One Day at a Time Season 3, but I can’t wait to see it. That show warms my heart and the writing, characters, actors/actresses are so good! I hope it gets renewed!
