My Favorite Things is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. I hope you enjoy these personal picks!
Movies
Lightyear
From Disney and Pixar comes an animated sci-fi action-adventure — the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voice of Chris Evans), the hero who inspired the toy. “Lightyear” follows the legendary space ranger on an intergalactic adventure alongside ambitious recruits, Izzy, Mo and Darby, and his robot companion Sox. As this motley crew embark on their toughest mission yet, they must learn to work as a team to escape the evil Zurg and his dutiful robot army who are never far behind.
Pixar came with all the feels in Lightyear as per usual, since I teared up a couple of times while watching this movie. While aimed at a younger audience, I feel that this film is way more for the adults with the deeper topics it discusses, plus it’s a film made for the kids (like me) who grew up with Toy Story. While nostalgic, I loved how they explored Buzz’s origin story and how they crafted the film as a whole. The story was fresh, and I enjoyed the sci-fi action feel of it all. The characters were so much fun! Definitely a must-watch for Toy Story fans.
Jurassic: World Dominion
Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
As you all might know, I love dinosaurs so much! I was amped to see this conclusion in the Jurassic World film trilogy. This film was much better than the second film, in my opinion, but my favorite film in this series has to be the first one. This film was incredibly action-packed and had a lot of tie-ins to the original Jurrasic Park films too. It was nice to see the original cast return and it made the film feel very nostalgic. A great summer blockbuster watch!
TV
The Irregulars
Misfits investigate a series of supernatural crimes in Victorian London for Dr. Watson and his shadowy associate, Sherlock Holmes.
Sherlock Holmes with supernatural twists? Count me in! Sadly I think there is only one season of this show, but from a couple of episodes, I’ve seen so far I really enjoy it. Netflix has canceled yet another show with the potential to grow. *sighs* For those that enjoy period dramas with paranormal twists, this show will appeal to you. Bea and her friends are labeled as misfits, but in reality, they have much greater power than anyone imagines. The setting is immersive and the episodes are action-packed. There’s never a dull moment.

The Mummy: Anatomy of an Adventure Movie
Another fantastic video from Quality Culture! This video discusses the 1999 film The Mummy and what makes it a standout as a classic adventure film. The Mummy is one of my favorite adventure films and there’s just something about its charm where I rewatch it over and over again. I don’t find a lot of quintessential adventure films in theatres today though and I miss it.
Music
Lookin 4 by Crush feat. Joyce Wrice, Devin Morrison
Crush is one of my favorite Korean R&B artists and I love this collaboration track. The song has a very good 2000s R&B vibe that is smooth and a bit nostalgic. I always enjoy seeing who Crush will collab with next.
Something To Say by Michaela Jae
This is a song that got put on my radar from my Spotify-curated Discover Weekly list. It’s a song with a funky groove and it makes you instantly want to get up and dance. It gives all of the vibes of a feel-good summer song!
Yet To Come by BTS
BTS is back with a mid-tempo ballad track and I love it. It’s sentimental to see how far they have come as a group and this song’s lyrics reflect their journey. I’ll be sad to see their hiatus as group, but I am so looking forward to hearing all of their solo projects to come!

I really need to rewatch The Mummy — it’s been years, and there’s been a whole Mummy renaissance on the internet since last I watched it. Now that it’s on HBO Max, I really need to seize the day and rewatch!
The Mummy is such a fun watch every time I see it. It makes me laugh and smile.
I’m really enjoying Back in Time for Birmingham, a short TV series that showed over a week in June but we recorded. It’s part of a series where they take a family and have them live as people would have from the 1920s or whatever onwards. This one takes a Hindu family from near Birmingham and recreates what life would have been like for immigrants in the 1950s onwards, so they experience trying to cook with what people could get then (spices from the pharmacy!), running a shop, etc. Fascinating stuff and set about two miles from us for this one, too!
Canada has a show similar to Back in Time for Birmingham that I’ve watched before on CBC. I don’t think the US has done a show like that (or that I know of). It’s so interesting to watch people recreate historical times when they are used to modern technology. Including when they have to cook the food a particular way.
