My Favorite Things of 2018: Music
For the last installment of my 2018 favorites, today I’ll be sharing my top picks in music. I’m talking about my favorite albums and EPs and new & favorite artists from the past year. Narrowing down music into compilation posts is always a daunting task for me since I listen to a wide variety of music on a daily basis. I’ve been straying away more from top 40 radio hits and listening to way more Spotify, etc. I also discovered Lofi music playlists which have been super helpful when I’m working or concentrating, but need calming music to enjoy!

Albums
Crazy Rich Asians Ost – This OST has everything from Chinese covers of famous pop songs to jazzy swing tunes. It accompanies the movie so well and it definitely added to the viewing experience. Favorite Track: Waiting For Your Return by Jasmine Chen
Coco OST – Pixar has done it again by creating a wonderful soundtrack of memorable tunes that are deeply sentimental and fun to sing along with. I loved the use of Mexican instruments to create the melodies. Favorite track: Un Poco Loco
The Greatest Showman OST – It’s no secret that I love musicals which I why I was so enamored with this movie. It’s got beautiful ballads, powerful anthem tracks, and songs that make you want to dance! Favorite Track: Rewrite the Stars by Zac Efron & Zendaya
The Story of Light by SHINee – My favorite K-Pop boy group is back with another stellar comeback album. Things still aren’t the same after Jonghyun is gone, but I loved how they pay homage to him in this album. They have some tracks that go back to their initial roots, but also experiment with new sounds. Favorite Track: Good Evening
Cuphead OST – There’s something about video game soundtracks that entice me. For Cuphead it’s vintage cartoon style and 1930s/40s music. It reminds me of watching old school cartoons with its vivid sounds. I also like that the soundtrack is so jazzy! Favorite Track: Botanic Panic
Vibras by J Balvin – I love Latin and Reggaeton music so I decided to check out this album. It’s pure fun and it’s got so many good tracks to dance to. It’s a solid album.
Aladdin OST – I’ve been listening to this soundtrack non-stop, especially after I got to see this musical at Christmastime. It breathes new life into one of my favorite Disney films. Favorite Track: A Friend Like Me
