My Favorite Things: September
My Favorite Things is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. I hope you enjoy these personal picks!
Movies
End of The Road
In this high-octane action thriller, a cross-country road trip becomes a highway to hell for Brenda and her family. Alone in the New Mexico desert, they have to fight for their lives when they become the targets of a mysterious killer.
As soon as I saw the trailer for this film, I immediately added it to my watch list. Queen Latifah starring in an action thriller? Sign me up! Some parts of this film are a bit formulaic (which is to be expected), but it did have a lot of unexpected twists and turns in the plot. I loved the chemistry of the cast and as always Latifah killed it in her main role. It was lots of high-action moments which kept me on the edge of my seat. End of The Road is an entertaining thriller for a weekend watch.
YouTube
Darling Desi
Recently I found a new YouTube channel to watch! Darling Desi curates some nice lifestyle videos and her seasonal-themed videos are the coziest. This recent video from her channel is a great watch if you’re looking for Autumnal recommendations for books, movies, and even food.
Intentionally Bookish
Usually, I stray away from bookish content on My Favorite Things, but I highly enjoyed Intentionally Bookish’s recent seasonal reading recommendations video and wanted to share it here. It’s Pumpkin Spice season and even though I’m not a fan of the drink I will be adding some of these cozy mysteries to my TBR list. If you’re looking for new cozy mysteries to read I highly recommend her videos.
F.D. Signifier
Signifier is a channel that was recommended to me by one of my book club friends and he makes some incredible videos. As a long-time listener of Lauryn Hill’s music his recent video, It’s Tough Loving Lauryn Hill was a fantastic deep dive into her career. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is still one of my top favorite albums to date. The video does a great job of covering her complex legacy and the complicated connection we have with her art.
The Conflicting Ideals of Hayao Miyazaki
Quality Culture is one of my favorite go-to YouTube channels for video essays so I was so excited to see this video on Studio Ghibli films. It’s a long but well-done essay on Miyazaki’s thinking process and ideals which are channeled into his films. There are some slight spoilers for some of the movies mentioned in the video, but if you enjoy Ghibli films I highly recommend watching this video.
Music
Loretta by GingerRoot
A smooth pop song with a very retro feel and look. This song was recommended to me by one of my friends. It gives off a very City Pop feel in its melody and I love how strong the bass is in this song. I’ll definitely be listening to more from this band.
Dreaming by Master Soul Boy
This song is so funky and will get you moving along to the music in no time. I love to listen to this song when I’m cruising in my car and am on the go. Master Soul Boy’s vocals are reminiscent of Jamiroquai (one of y favorite artists) in this track. It’s a song that transports its listeners to a faraway place.
See Tình by Hoàng Thuỳ Linh
A viral song that’s been floating around the internet. I’m always looking for new artists around the globe and Linh is a popular singer in Vietnam. The melody of this song is so infectious and the lyrics express all of the feelings of falling in love. The MV is beautifully done and I like how the song and imagery blends modern and traditional Vietnamese culture.
