My Favorite Things: September Edition
My Favorite Things” is a monthly segment where I share my personal and current favorites in seasonal products, health & beauty, food, decor, movies, TV, and more. Hope you enjoy these personal picks!
Movies
Hello My Name is Doris
Synopsis: With help from her best friend’s granddaughter , a smitten woman (Sally Field) concocts schemes to get the attention of a younger co-worker (Max Greenfield) in her office.
This movie was heartwarming, charming, and very real. Sally Fields has been one of my favorite actors for years, and she does an excellent job of playing the part of Doris in this film. While it was equal parts comedy, there are some sad parts mixed in, but overall it is an enjoyable movie. I thought the acting was great, and I liked how the plot developed over the course of the film.
Man Up
Synopsis: This film starring Simon Pegg and Lake Bell and follows a single 34-year-old woman (Bell), who after being mistaken for a stranger’s blind date, finds the perfect boyfriend in a 40-year-old divorcee (Pegg).
This movie had been sitting in my Netfllix queue for quite a while and I decided to watch it because I was in the mood for a feel-good rom com. Man Up is a fun and easygoing film. The plot is a bit predictable (like most rom coms), but it will make you laugh out loud. I thought the acting chemistry between Pegg and Bell was strong and that made the film’s entertainment factor strong.
The Magnificent Seven
Synopsis: Seven gun men in the old west gradually come together to help a poor village against savage thieves.
This movie has a huge star-studded cast with actors such as Denzel Washington, Christ Pratt, Ethan Hawke, and it does not disappoint. I’m a huge fan of period/historical movies, and I’m also slowly becoming a fan of Westerns. I enjoyed that the movie was constantly action packed so I was never bored, plus the cast is diverse (which I really appreciated). This is a great reboot of a 1960’s classic Western.
Beauty
Cucumber Smooth Milk Cleanser by Yesto
I love majority of the products from this organic skin care line! This cleanser is gentle on the skin, smells nice, and leaves my skin silky smooth. When I want to use a face cleanser that is bit gentler on my skin or when my skin feels just a tad dry, this is my go-to product.
Twilight Woods Body Cream by Bath & Body Works
Twilight Woods is a combination of apricot nectar, mimosa petals & Tuscan cypress, among other scents. It’s one of my top favorite scents from Bath & Body Works and I like that it’s a strong blend without being too overpowering on your nose.
Food & Drink
Salted Caramel Mocha by Starbucks
This is hands down, my favorite fall drink at Starbucks! The drink is a combination of mocha sauce and toffee nut syrup, along with coffee and milk. Then they top it off with sweetened whipped cream, caramel drizzle and a blend of sugar and sea salt. Yum!
TV
Dancing With The Stars
On of my favorite competition/reality shows on TV is DWTS. I’ve been watching it for years and I love the variety of celebrities and professional dancers on the show. The costumes are absolutely gorgeous and I love the choreography. I really hope that I can take some ballroom dancing classes soon!
The Twilight Zone
The Twilight Zone is an American science-fiction, fantasy, psychological-supernatural horror anthology television series created by Rod Serling. Each episode is surrounded by dramas depicting characters dealing with or unusual events and it usually includes a moral.
This show is brilliant! I decided to start from the beginning and watch the whole series over again since I haven’t seen a huge chunk of the many episodes.
Music
Gossip Folks by Missy Elliott
Missy Elliott is one my favorite female rappers. I love her new music, but it’s the 2000s Missy music that I really enjoy. The song was a response to various rumors about her, and tells people who spread these rumors to mind their own business. It’s got a great beat, and it’s a great song to dance to.
Boys Boys Boys by Grace
Grace Sewell, known as Grace, is an Australian singer and songwriter. She is best known for the song You Don’t Own Me, and featuring G-Eazy. FMA is her debut album, and I highly recommend you give it a listen as there a lot of solid tracks on there. Her soulful and pop vocals give her songs flavor.
In The Heights Soundtrack
In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The story is set over the course of three days, involving an ensemble cast of characters in the largely Dominican-American neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City. This is one of my favorite musicals! I got to see it live and it was such an amazing experience.

I cannot WAIT to see The Magnificent Seven. Confessions, I have never seen the original, but I am into all of these actors, and I’m excited to give the remake a try. It’ll be like when I saw Lady Ghostbusters without seeing OG Ghostbusters first. I have no regrets!
My favorite thing in September is this new mascara I got in my very first Birchbox. Milk Makeup is the brand? And it makes me look super classy and awesome.
I never saw the original Magnificent Seven, but now I might. I still need to see the new Ghostbusters, it’s on my too watch list. The OG Ghostbusters is a classic! And I’ll have to look up that makeup brand, I’ve never heard of it before.
