September-October Book Haul: “Autumn Leaves” Edition
This year is flying by and we’re halfway through Autumn and heading into the holiday season. That means it’s time for a brand-new book haul! As of today, I’ve completed my 2022 Goodreads goal which I am very happy about! I’ll keep reading past my goal to see how many books I can read before the year ends. I’ve been cutting way on buying books, so this haul is small this month.
I’m caught up mostly with ARCs and trying to read more of my own books. It’s so hard though because my work schedule is so busy! We’ve only a little over a month left of the year so it’s crunch time now.
Now onto the book haul!
Bought
The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison – I’ve been on a mission to collect Morrison’s novels and add them to my bookshelves. I found this copy for a discount at a library used book sale (along with some of the other books featured here).
Halloween Murder by Leslie Meier – I’m a big cozy mysteries fan and I always see Meier’s books floating around in the mystery section at the bookstore. I figure I’ll try out her books and save this read for Spooky Season 2023.
Strange Neighbors Trilogy by Ashlyn Chase – I love a good paranormal romance series and the covers made me pick up the book. This paranormal romance trilogy is set in shapeshifter-landlord Jason Falco’s brownstone which is occupied by the oddest of tenants. It sounds like it will be an entertaining read!
Donut Fall in Love by Jackie Lau – I’ve become such a fan of Lau’s romance novels and found this novel in the bargain section at Books-A-Million. It is about a baker and an actor bonding over baking and falling in love! It sounds so cozy!
Just Pretend by Tori Sharp – I always enjoy finding new graphic novels to read, especially graphic memoirs. This middle-grade read is about a young girl who uses her active imagination to navigate middle school as well as the fallout from her parent’s divorce.
Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann – This is YA novel focused on the struggle with emerging adulthood and the complicated line between friendship and what it might mean to be something more. I’ve had this on my TBR and found a copy at the bookstore, Mocha Books (which is now sadly closed).
Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill your Bones by Alvin Schwartz – A nostalgic buy for the Halloween season. Check out a collaboration post I did back in October where my friend and I compared the books with the movie adaptation.
Myth: A Promise, Part 1-3 by Zelda C. Wang – Myth is a collection of original short stories inspired by Greek mythology. I found this at a used book sale and the artwork and the story looks so enticing.
ARCs/Review Copies
Salt and Sugar by Rebecca Carvalho – Salt and Sugar is a wonderful YA novel set in Brazil which features two young aspiring chefs. Lari is a girl who doesn’t know how to cook but has the willingness to learn and carry on her family’s bakery. When then these two rivals end up entangled in their family feud and in the cooking club at school can they put aside their differences and get along? (Review)
Seoulmates by Susan Lee – Seoulmates is an entertaining YA Romance novel that follows Hannah and Jacob, two best friends since childhood whose friendship has split apart over the years. This Summer Jacob comes back to visit with his family and the two are forced to cohabitate under the same roof. Can they repair their friendship or will Summer turn out to be even something more for them? (Review)
Rust In The Root by Justina Ireland – Rust in The Root is a thrilling and entertaining fantasy that takes readers through an alternate version of US history. The novel follows the main character, Laura, who lives in a world divided full of technology and magic. When she joins the Bureau of the Arcane’s Conservation Corps, she quickly learns the job is more than she signs on for. (Review)
Monster Club by Darren Aronofsky & Ari Handel – Have you ever wished your drawings could come to life? Well, Monster Club brings that very same idea to the pages of its novel. I enjoyed the concept of the club with Eric as its leader along with his rag-tag group of friends. (Review)
Amari and the Night Game by B.B. Alston – In this sequel, the secretive League of Magicians offers her a chance to stand up for magiciankind as its new leader, Amari declines. She’s got enough to worry about! But her refusal allows someone else to step forward, a magician with dangerous plans for the League. This challenge sparks the start of the Great Game, a competition to decide who will become the Night Brothers’ successor and determine the future of magiciankind. (Review to come soon!)
That concludes my September-October book haul! What books did you buy these past months? What books have you recently added to your TBR? Tell me in the comment section below.
Nice ones! I’ve been quite restrained this month, thank goodness!
