Slice of Life: Winter Wrap-Up

Winter has come to an official end!  But even though the season is technically over I won’t see any resemblance of actual spring weather for a while (Thanks, Michigan) I’m not sad to see the season go, because winter is my least favorite time of the year. I’m most definitely ready for warmer weather!  2023 may have gotten off to a rocky start, but at least things are starting to smooth out on my end. Here are some of my highlights from Winter 2022/2023.

Van Gogh in America

In January I visted my favorite local museum, Detroit Institute of Arts to see the limited time exhibit “Van Gogh in America”. As a longtime fan of his artwork this was such an incredible experience as I got to get up close to some his most notable pieces as well as his early drawings. It was a bit of emotional experience for me, especially when I saw Starry Night (my absolute favorite). I’m so glad I got the opportunity to go to this exhibit.

Mochi Doughnuts

February is my birthday month, so I treated myself by trying mochi doughnuts for the first time! The mochi donuts differ from other doughnuts hybrid batter makes for a doughnut that is fluffy and moist, with a satisfying chew. My favorite flavor was Taro out of the entire box. I can’t wait to try them again.

Beetlejuice The Musical

If you enjoy things that are strange and unusual then Beetlejuice the Musical is the show for you! u should know that the musical does share some similar moments from the 1988 film, but for the most part, it deviates from the original source which I appreciated. The soundtrack is filled with catchy, lively tunes that get stuck in your head after the show. It’s loud, raunchy, and fun! The special effects were very cool too. Definitely worth the watch!

Scooby-Doo Mansion Mayhem

As a long-time fan of Scooby-Doo I couldn’t resist going to visit the limited Mansion Mayhem exhibit that came to the local Henry Ford Museum. I got to visit this exhibit through Fandom Spotlite and it filled me with so much nostalgia. I even got to take a photo with one of Mystery Machine vans used in the film. You get to put your sleuthing skills to the test and solve the case with the Mystery Inc gang. I had a lot of fun being able to interact with everything and I saw that adults like myself were enjoying the exhibit as much as kids.

Choco Town

If you ever wanted to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory in real life then Choco Town is the place. I also got to cover this immersive experience in my area for Fandom Spotlite recently and it was so much fun. It’s a unique spin on the food tasting experience with many photo opportunities and hands on experiences. It’s a beautiful, candy-filled experience that I highly recommend. It definitely will get you to let loose (and for the adults) to feel like a kid again.
