Slice of Life: Winter Wrap-Up 2024
Winter has come to an official end! But even though the season is technically over I won’t see any resemblance of actual spring weather for a while (Thanks, Michigan) I’m not sad to see the season go, because winter is my least favorite time of the year. I’m most definitely ready for warmer weather! Here are some of my highlights from Winter 2023/2024.
K-Pop Dance Class at Art Lab J
I’m a part of a local K-Pop meetup group and went to an event were got to learn some K-Pop choreography to BTS songs. It was a hug turnout and a lot of fun. Everyone was getting into the music, enjoying themselves, and getting a good workout from all of the intense choreography. I would to take some more K-Pop dance classes in the future.
Isshocon 2024
Isshocon held it’s inaugural convention earlier this year! The convention is hosted by Otaku Detroit, a local anime store, and for it’s first year I think this con has a promising future. I was only able to attend for one day, but I had a fun time check out the dealers hall/artist alley, going to panels, and playing games in the arcade room. I can’t wait to see how the convention will further expand next year. I look forward to attending the con again.
Birthday Lunch at Kura Sushi
Kura Sushi is a revolving Sushi Bar restaurant originating from Japan and now has locations in North America. We finally got a location about a year ago or so and my friend Jamila took me here for a birthday lunch back in February. I loved the concept for the restaurant and the cute little robot that brought drinks around to each table. I don’t care for raw fish, but the menu has plenty of options to choose from. I tried so many new dishes!
The Trucks Park by Paradise
For my local book club’s January meeting we decided to meet at The Trucks Park by Paradise restaurant that just opened up recently. I loved the colorful ceiling and overall décor of restaurant. The menu had so much variety on their menu which had a street food style flair to it as well as an extensive tea menu. The butter chicken tacos were delicious!
Galantine’s Day Tea Time
The Royal Treat Room is by far my favorite local tea room. To celebrate Galantine’s Day my mom and I went out for tea, scones, and a delicious quiche. Though the tea room was busy it was still a cozy and soothing experience. This tea room has the best scones too!
Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village
Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village is an annual event held at the museum every year, and usually is sold out as soon as tickets go on sale. This year I was able to attend and it was so much fun. They have so many activities to do that it was impossible them to do in one evening. You get to stroll down Main Street, shop for holiday goods, enjoy food and warm beverages, or take a ride on a historic Model T, carousel or horse-drawn wagon. The Model T ride was so much fun and I loved learning about historical holiday traditions.

So many pictures: fab! I love the idea of learning Kpop choreo but I would need a lot of practice so as not to hold back my end. heheh My tea-drinking skillz go way back though. My winter highlights this year were mostly walk-related on various trails with lake views I enjoy…lots of snow and ice and little creatures making their homes in it all. (Most of them are too shy to be featured in photos! hee hee)
It’s hard to do a lot of winter walks here unless you go to a local park, but I bet yours was refreshing. K-Pop choreo can be difficultm, but it just depends on the song/dance. Some are very easy and made for the audience to follow along with.
