The Great Netflix Binge of Summer 2015!

As you might know, summer is not only for catching up with your super long TBR list that continues to grow, but it’s also a prime time for catching up with your favorite and list to-watch TV shows. There have been a lot of shows I need to personally catch up with before the new season starts, but I also want to watch a lot of the new shows that have been coming out in 2014-2015.

Here is just a small selection of some of the shows I plan to watch this summer…

1) God’s Gift -14 days

This is a Korean drama that I’ve been eyeing for a little while and I decided to finally dig it out of the clutches of my Netflix queue. The drama is a about a character named Kim Soo-hyun, who is a mother and her young daughter Han Saet-byul gets kidnapped and murdered. She discovers that she has ability to go back in time exactly two weeks before the event, and she is determined to expose the kidnapping plot and save her daughter before she dies all over again.

The story is a big dark compared to the bubbly rom-com Korean dramas I’m used to watching, but two episodes into this suspenseful show and I’m already hooked. I’m intrigued by the plot of being able to possibly prevent the future, and I wonder how it will all play out in the end.

2) Orange Is The New Black – Season 3

The women of Litchfield Penitentiary are back for another season of drama! And it got renewed for a fourth season! Yay! Last season was definitely a whirlwind, and after the way it ended I wonder what will happen in this season. I love the cast of these amazing actresses, and the writing of this show is superb.

I feel that I need to jump on the bandwagon quick, because I’ve had to dodge numerous spoilers on the internet that are plastered everywhere. It’s like what was happening with GoT (Game of Thrones) and I’m only on season one.

 3) Orphan Black – Season 3

One of the few shows I’ve got sitting on DVR out of many. Tatiana Maslany is a great actress and her ability to play multiple clones is amazing. Not only are the actors really good at what they do, but I commend the writers of the show as well. The first time I had heard of Orphan Black when it first debuted I was intrigued. The “clone story line” has been done before, but this show separates itself from others with the way it bends the rules of sci-fi and weaves a complex plot. Sci-fi, action, drama, romance, and more, Orphan Black has got it all.

4) Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

I saw this a while back recommended by fellow blogger, Sarah @ The Bookshelf Pirate. I decided to pull it out my Netflix queue, and instantly I fell in love with the show. Why have I not watched this sooner?! Miss Fisher’s is an Australian television drama series. The series is based on author Kerry Greenwood’s novels and follows the personal and professional life of Phryne Fisher, a glamorous private detective in 1920s Melbourne.

Miss Fisher is a fun and lively character who loves putting her nose in other’s business in order to get tidbits to solve the case she’s working on . She’s fearless, dresses like a boss, and is a super sleuth!

5) Producers

Back to the world of K-dramas, Producers is one of the most hyped up shows for 2015. I’m really eager to watch it because its got IU, one of my favorite Korean singers, and Gong Hyo Jin, who became one of my favorite actresses after her fantastic performances in The Greatest Love & The Master’s Sun.

This drama is centered around the life of producers who work at the KBS building in the network’s variety department, keeping hectic schedules of filming, editing and all-night meetings.

6) Outlander

So even though this show is currently in “drought-lander” status because of its hiatus, I’m still working through the episodes of season one on my DVR. I’m pleased with the how this adaptation has been sticking closely with the original book. I also enjoy the acting, the cinematography, and the historical fiction aspect. I am also curious to see how many seasons will be carried out and how the rest of the books will be adapted into TV.

6) Daredevil

I haven’t watched too many superhero shows on TV as of lately unless you count cartoons like Teen Titans. I’ll admit, I don’t know all of the superheros from Marvel, but I have heard Daredevil’s name in passing before. The story of a lawyer-by-day who fights crime at night sounds cool and it’s got high praises from critics and viewers  alike.

7) Grace and Frankie

Another Netflix original! Ever since I’ve heard this show was coming out, I’ve been excited. I love Jane Fonda’s work from previous movies I’ve watched and I think she’s a funny lady. I don’t know too much about Lily Tomlin, but from what I’ve seen in the trailers she sounds as equally hilarious.

This series follows Grace, a retired cosmetics mogul, and Frankie, a hippie art teacher, whose husbands, Robert and Sol, are successful divorce lawyers in San Diego. Their lives are turned upside down when Robert and Sol announce that they are in love with each other and are leaving their wives.

8) iZombie

One of my new favorites! I’m halfway through season one on DVR. This show is based on a graphic novel, so I’ll have to definitely check out the original book. The story follows Olivia Moore who is turned into a zombie while attending a boat party. To cope with her new appetite for brains, Liv takes a job at the morgue and shares her secret with her boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti. Ravi encourages Liv to eat the brains of murder victims who are delivered to the morgue in order to survive and she learns that in doing so she can actually help solve their murders.

I like the story line and the cast of characters is entertaining. Definitely recommended for fans of zombie-style shows, but I do enjoy that this show has a more comedic take on being a zombie.
