Top Ten Tuesday: Books that Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows/Movies

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is Books that Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows/Movies. There were so many picks I wanted to choose, but here are 10 random ones.

Along for the Ride – I think this would make a fun rom-com film with some of the fun antics that happen during the lead couple’s road trip, plus the romance is sweet.

Skyward – I could see this being a series, with some super cool special effects since the story is set in a futuristic world with no gravity and high technology.

Saving Ruby King – This would be interesting as a mini-series. Since the story is told in multiple povs I could see each episode being told from a different character as the mystery unravels.

Dawn Among The Stars – It would be an epic TV series, maybe with a set up like Star Trek or something similar? It would be cool to see how they would portray a post-apocalyptic universe on Earth/in Space.

The Bride Test – I love Hoang’s works and this is not only a romance story, but also a tale about family and has rich culture. It has an arranged marriage trope that’s a bit unique from other books I’ve read.

Dead Witch Walking – Because the Rachel Morgan book universe is so vast, I could see this as a multiple seasons show. It’s got many interesting supernatural elements, a bit of magic, lots of action, and a very entertaining cast of characters.

Spin The Dawn – It might need a big budget to pull this off, historical settings with magic and folklore aspects would pull the audience in. Plus all of the elaborate clothing mentioned in the tailoring contest would be gorgeous!

Dear Haiti, Love Alaine – I could see this as a movie with a lot of humor and heart as it’s a good coming of age story. It has a destination setting and a fish out of water tale that people could connect to.

Somewhere Only We Know – This would be such a fun movie. Since K-Pop is becoming bigger wordlwide and the story involves a K-pop singer on the run, I think it would be interesting.

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein – I think this would make a good period mini series. It’s unique because of it’s take on the classic tale and I could see it being released on Netflix around Halloween season.

  1. Ooh, this is a good reminder that I still haven’t read that Maurene Goo book! The last one I read by her was the one with the food truck, which was a delight, and I was saving the K-pop one and then of course forgot about it. 😛 Regardless, I strenuously agree to the plan of adapting it for a rom-com. Flawless material for it.
