So we are just a few weeks away from the end of 2017! I can’t believe it! I’ve read so many wonderful books this year and now it’s time to compile them into one list. This is always the hardest for me and I know for others it can be pretty stressful to pick from such a wide array of books.
I took a good look at what I read this year and made sure to balance this list out with books I read at the beginning of the year, middle, and my most recent reads. All the books listed below have been reviewed on the blog so check out my full reviews for why these books are absolutely amazing! For this list I’ll be writing short blurbs about why I enjoyed each book. Without further ado here are my top reads for 2017!
*My list is compiled of books I read in 2017, not all are 2017 releases.
March: Book One by John Lewis – I love non-fiction graphic novels and March is one of my top favorites. John Lewis gives a vivid description of his pov from the Civil Rights movements. It’s a very strong narrative with beautiful artwork.
Outrun The Moon by Stacey Lee – This is an engaging novel set in 1900s San Francisco during the Great Earthquake. I loved reading Mercy’s story and admired her bravery throughout all the things that she endured. I’ll definitely be reading more of Lee’s books.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas – This book is incredibly timely to what is happening in today’s society. I saw a lot of myself in Starr and could relate a lot of her struggles. It’s a powerful book about finding our voice and speaking up for what you believe in.
Hold Me by Courtney Milan – Milan is a new to me author this year and I love her contemporary novels. This book has a good plot, well-developed characters, plus both of the main characters work in STEM.
Fresh Romance Vol.1 by Various Authors – Diverse comics and romance stories?! This book is a great combination of both, the romance was sweet and I loved seeing multicultural and LGBT characters. The romance world needs more books like this!
An Extraordinary Union (Loyal League #1) by Alyssa Cole – Gaaaah! *squeals with joy* Why have I not known about Alyssa Cole?! She’s such an amazing writer and this book is full of revolutionary spies, steamy romance, and bad-assery. Need I say more?!
The Reader (Sea of Ink and Gold #1) by Traci Chee – The cover art for this series is gorgeous! The writing by Chee is incredibly descriptive and it immerses the reader in this new world full of wonder and terror. Though the “magical book” story line has been done before Chee puts her own spin on it.
Penance by Kanae Minato – My second read by Minato and yet again she has blown me away with another chilling mystery novel. I loved the multiple povs and the suspense had me on the edge of my seat while put together the mystery. If you love dark, psychological thrillers, this one is a must read.
The Path to Dawn (Opal Charm #1) by Miri Castor – This book is full of so much rich fantasy with a multitude of diverse characters! The Path to Dawn is an coming-of-age story where Opal, the main characters must learn to control her new magical powers and find herself.
Always and Forever, Laura Jean by Jenny Han – This list would not be complete without the lovely Song sisters. I loved seeing Laura Jean grow up throughout these books and having her story come to a complete close. This one of my favorite YA contemporary series ever.
Daughter of The Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller – If you didn’t already know, I adore books about pirates and adventures on the high seas. This book is a perfect mixture of both and it’s got some cool action scenes too. Alosa is a witty, fierce, and resourceful pirate.
That concludes my list Top Ten Favorite Books of 2017! I can’t wait for the books 2018 will bring!
