What I’m Listening to…Halloween Music
Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In this blog post series, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist of five songs.
I’m back this month with a playlist perfect for Halloween. It was really hard to narrow this list down to five picks, since Halloween is my second favorite holiday. I tried to pick a fun eclectic mix of songs for you to enjoy. To shake-up things up a little and make this playlist not so typical, I decided to exclude some of my favorite and popular Halloween standards such as:
- Thriller -Michael Jackson
- Ghostbusters – Ray Parker Jr.
- Monster Mash – Bobby Pickett
- Time Warp – Rocky Horror Picture Show
- The entire soundtrack for The Nightmare Before Christmas
Without further ado, here are my five picks!
1) Nightmare on My Street by Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff
I had almost forgotten about this song until I heard it the other day. This fun collaboration takes a fun poke at the movie Nightmare on Elm Street. The two rap about their terrifying experience of running into the Freddy Kruger. I love this song so much and it reminds of when I used to watch The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on repeat.
2) Teeth by Lady Gaga
In this upbeat track Lady Gaga sings about the creatures of the night: vampires. I love the western feel of the melody and this song definitely makes you want to dance. Since there’s no official video, I decided to show you guys this hilarious parody of The Vampire Diaries done by the Hillywood Show that’s set to the song. I think the parody matches up with the lyrics perfectly.
3) Phantom of the Opera Medley by Lindsey Sterling
This video showcases a fantastic medley of the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack done by the talented violinist Lindsey Sterling. She’s one of my favorite artists and l love the accompanying band that’s added to this arrangement to give it a rock sound and feel. The costumes are equally amazing as well.
4) People are Strange by The Doors
Even though this song conveys the feelings of some who is an outsider, it has a bit of an eerie vibe to it. I could definitely see this song being used in a horror/thriller movie soundtrack.
5) Somebody’s Watching Me by Rockwell
This song is great for Halloween, and follows a man who probably has watched one too many horror movies and as a result has become super paranoid. Although I think we all have felt like this at one time or another. The song also features Jackson 5 members Michael Jackson on the chorus and his brother Jermaine Jackson on additional backing vocals.
Bonus Song!
I just heard this song and wanted to include this song on my playlist. It’s a fun remix by The Living Tombstone of the classic Halloween song “Spooky Scary Skeletons by Andrew Gold.
And that concludes my Halloween playlist! What songs do you recommend? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂
