What I’m Listening To…Sounds of Summer
Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In this blog post series, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist of five songs.
Summer is my favorite season of the year to have fun in the sun and enjoy outdoor activities such as festivals. For this edition of “What I’m Listening To” I have compiled a list of five energetic, upbeat, and quirky songs for the season. Hope you enjoy this playlist!
1) Miami Mix by Will Smith
This is such a great remix of Will Smith’s 1998 hit single Miami. It’s a very good dance track and is the perfect summer anthem for cruising song in your car or enjoying at an outdoor party.
2) Smile by Dani Im
Smile is an upbeat bubblegum pop and doo-wop song by Australian singer Dani Im. She’s one of my new favorite pop singers and I love her vocals. This song’s positive message about loving yourself and doing simple things in your life to make yourself smile will definitely brighten up your day.
3) Groove Is In The Heart by Deee-lite
Though the music video for Groove Is In The Heart is a bit psychedelic and out of this world, the music will have you dancing in no time. The song was originally released in 1990 and became an immediate smash in nightclubs and globally as well. The lyrics for this song are catchy and it always makes me want to sing along whenever I hear it.
4) My Love by Selena
My Love is one of the singles released off of the self-titled debut studio album for the legendary Tejano singer Selena. The energetic love song is mix of cumbia and regional styles of Mexican music. It’s one of my favorite songs from Selena and I love the music styles and the strong vocals she belts out in this song.
5) Flamingo by Kero Kero Bonito
The last song on my playlist is Flamingo by Kero Kero Bonito. They are British band from London whose music is influenced by J-pop, dance hall, and video game music. The group’s vocalist Sarah Midori Perry raps in Japanese and English giving their music an eclectic feel. This is a quirky song is about being yourself.

You’ve heard of Kero Kero Bonito! A friend of mine introduced me to them last year!
A Youtube vlogger I follow plays their songs in the background of their vlog and I started looking into their music. They’re pretty great!
