What I’m Listening To…90’s Anime Themes Vol. 2
Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres daily. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In my segment “What I’m Listening To” I share some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini playlist consisting of five tracks.
This month’s playlist (as you can see from the title) will have multiple volumes. I love 90’s anime music and art style so much. Even though I didn’t start watching anime until the mid-2000s, these songs/shows give me some nostalgia. I hope you enjoy these picks!
Catch You Catch Me – Cardcaptor Sakura
Catch You Catch Me is the opening song to the first season of Cardcaptor Sakura, sung by Megumi Hinata under the pseudonym GUMI. It’s a bubbly pop song with a funky brass sound in its melody and a overall energetic vibe. It gets you excited to watch each episode and matches the cute aesthetics of this anime so well. It’s one of my anime pump-up songs.
Ultra Relax – Kodocha
I honestly wish more people knew about this amazing anime! t’s a story about growing up, finding yourself, and finding love. The wacky antics and comedy is matched very well in this opening theme. Though the anime does take on more serious storylines in the latter episodes, this theme captures the many lighthearted parts of the show fans love so much.
Party Join Us – Crayon Shin Chan
This is one of the many ending theme songs for Shin Chan. It was also used as the main ending for the Hindi dub, and the English FUNimation dub where it was titled Party! Join Us. It’s an upbeat song with catchy lyrics that are easy to sing along with. Definitely a fitting song for the anime.
Tank! – Cowboy Bebop
What’s an anime theme list without a Yoko Kanno soundtrack?! To be honest, I have never seen this show in its entirety, but as an avid jazz listener, I love the soundtrack to pieces. Tank is such an iconic opening theme song, and it soothes the soul in such a jazzy way.
Please Be As You Were – Patlabor
Usually, I’m not much of a fan of mecha anime, but I have watched some of this show and it really got me hooked on the plot. What a great opening and it makes me nostalgic for that older J-pop sound and feel. It’s having an overall lively vibe and I like the vocal style of the singer, Yuko Nito.
