What I’m Listening To…A Very Vintage Halloween
Hello readers! I love listening to music of all genres on a daily basis. I can’t go a day without popping on some headphones and listening to some upbeat tunes while I dance around my room or relax from a long day by listening to calming songs. In this blog post series, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite song picks with you in a mini-playlist of five songs.
For this month’s edition of “What I’m Listening To” I decided to supply you with some spooky tunes for Halloween! This time around I chose some classic or vintage Halloween-themed tracks or songs that have a supernatural theme to them. Enjoy! *To see last year’s picks click here!
The Headless Horseman by Bing Crosby
This song is from one of my all-time favorite Disney Halloween shorts. I love the story of Sleepy Hollow and I love the jazzy melody of the tune. It acts as an exposition to the tale of the Headless Horseman while entertaining listeners who are engrossed in the story.
Haunted House Blues by Bessie Smith
This is a spooky but jazzy blues tune from legendary singer Bessie Smith about a haunted house but also an allegory for a relationship. Filled with eerie sound effects that are blended with Bessie’s signature vocals it’s a great vintage Halloween track.
Trick or Treat
This song comes from the 1952 animated short film produced by Disney which follows a series of pranks between Donald Duck and his nephews with Witch Hazel. It’s a cute song with a peppy, upbeat melody. Whenever I think about fun and spooky Halloween songs this tune always comes to mind.
The Ghost of Smokey Joe by Cab Calloway
One of many of Calloway’s tunes includes one of his most notable song characters, Minnie the Moocher, and another character, Smokey Joe. It’s a fun and playful jazz track that gets the listener moving on their feet.
The Yodeling Ghost by Bing Crosby, The Andrew Sisters
Another Crosby tune for my last pick on this playlist! This is a silly song about a yodeling ghost who seeks to haunt a woman who rejected him in the past. The play on words along with the call-and-response style of the song makes it so much fun to listen to.
And that concludes my vintage Halloween playlist! What songs do you recommend? Let me know in the comments below!
I adore this! I’m still totally in the spooky season vibe. 🎃🎃🎃
