Wonderful Writers: Ellen Schreiber
Hi All! Wonderful Writers is a weekly segment that comes out every Wednesday! Every week I spotlight and discuss one of my favorite authors, books by them, and talk about their writing styles and such. I hope you’ll enjoy. Feel free to participate as well by writing your own post and as always you are welcome to use the meme/pic if you’d like (just remember to credit me).
About: Ellen is an American young-adult fiction author. Before she became a writer Ellen was an actress, and she performed in a two-woman show before going on her own to become a stand-up comedian. As a writer she has had several works published in Europe and America. The Vampire Kisses series was her first popular book series. Her brother, Mark Schreiber, is also an author who helped her start her writing career.
What I’ve Read (So Far):
- Vampire Kisses #1-8
- Vampire Kisses: Blood Relatives #1-2
Why She’s a Wonderful Writer:
I’ve been reading the Vampire Kisses novels since late middle school and they are such light and fun books! The series follows a 16-year-old girl named Raven Madison who is a goth misfit in her ordinary, town. When an old abandoned mansion finally gets new residents, the rumors start to spread that the new neighbors are actually secret bloodthirsty vampires.
What makes this series so enjoyable is that it has a good mixture of humor, thrill, mystery, romance, and the supernatural. It plays into some of the stereotypical vampire tropes, but Schreiber makes her books innovative by putting her own twists on the paranormal genre. Schreiber puts great detail into all of her novels and has created memorable and lovable characters that will always stay with me. The main protagonist, Raven, is a bit of an outsider in her own hometown, but she exudes confidence and spreads the message to readers to just be yourself.
